What do you need for a sew-in?

Wow, I'm just bursting with questions today...

I'm getting my braids out this weekend. I've only have them for 3 weeks but they look awful and the buildup is killing me. So I was thinking about trying a sew-in next. My question is what do you need to do a sew-in? Is there a shopping list of supplies I need to get? And I really have no idea where to buy tracks...since I've never done that before. I'd rather buy them at a store instead of online if possible. So if you can help me out with my little list, please do. TIA ladies :)

Just go to the beauty supply store and buy some weave. They usually have a wall full of it behind the register. Other than that, you'll need a needle (I usually get the C shaped one), and some thread. They keep both of those behind the counter too. That's pretty much it. Oh yeah, when I get mines done at the shop, they reinforce my cornrows with synthetic braiding hair so they'll last longer. But when I do my weaves at home I skip that step. I don't know how to braid the synthetic hair in. HTH.... Are you going to do it yourself or have someone else do it?

How much longer??? I've always had my real hair braided up...that last about 6-8 weeks (longer I'm sure but I'm ready for a fresh weave by then). TIA

Oh god, I'm hopeless with hair. I'm hoping to have my cousin do it since she's a stylist. If not I'll be hunting down a black shop here in Peoria. Do I need a certain amount of packs of hair? Thanks for responding!

Idk I guess it just depends on how often you wash it. I just find that the cornrows don't unravel as fast when I wash the weave if it has synthetic hair in the braids. However, a sew in is supposed to be able to last as long as 3 months. So that's what 12 weeks? As far as packs of hair, I usually use 2 because my head is kind of big. But most people use like 1 or 1/2. It depends on how much of your hair is left out for blending.
