WHAT DO SPLIT ENDS LOOK LIKE?

The answer to this question may seem obvious but I am a bit confused. Splits are said to make the ends appear thinner, however, my ends seem to become slightly thicker and sometimes frizzy. How can you tell the difference? <font color="red"> </font>
 
I can literally see a split in the bottom of the strands.

If it's really damaged, but there are no splits, I can tell because there will be a ton of bent spots in the strand, or I'll see those little white balls in the strand too.

I saw a ton of those after getting my hair bleached on the older dyed parts.
