What causes frizzy hair? Is healthy hair frizzy hair??

Me and my friend on here Flawed2Perfection were talking the other day I were trying to figure out how can we have neat, unfrizzy hair. It seems like a lot of girls walking around have perfectly neat hair that always falls in the right place, and even when curly it is not one single frizz evident. They probably use the flat iron to keep their styles looking like that, but there has to be another way right?

Both of us have healthy hair. We deep condition often and make sure to use protein when needed. We don't use direct heat or limit use. We only rollerset, but the rollersets always come out frizzy. Or they are frizzy within 1-2 days.

I thought it was because I needed my ends clipped. Both of us recently did that but there is STILL frizziness :-/ The frizz just falls better now haha

Any tips?
 
From my experience, frizzy hair is the result of the hair's cuticles being left open. They become 'open' because of heat, humidity, over manipulation (constant brushing or combing) and / or ph imbalance. Using products that are ph balanced can help balance your hair's ph and close the cuticles so it has a smoother appearance. To further smooth the cuticle, you can use serums or cones - but use them sparringly since they tend to block out moisture. HTH
 
OP, can you post a photo of the so-called frizzy hair you see on yourself or your friend? I ask because my 4B hair, when combed out or stretched, has an appearance that some would call frizzy.

lovenharmony is right about the causes of frizz, but hair that is too kinky to reflect light well can have an appearance of being dull and undefined and look the way say type 3 hair might look when frizzy.

So it's not easy to make a judgment call and say "frizzy hair is healthy hair" (or not). It depends on type, texture, history of hair habits, etc whether the hair in question is healthy or not.

Agreeing with Lovenharmony. She's right. Acids close the cuticles and alkaline substances like shampoos raise the cuticle. I would suggest a natural gel or pomade to tame frizzies even if your cuticles are closed.

What's a natural gel? Aloe vera?

What about Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Anti-Humidity Strong Smoothing Milk? Anyone use that. I heard that they helps t o reduce frizz a little
 
I find the more you mess about with curls, the more chance you get frizz. I never comb after a roller set, I gently separate the curls with lightly oiled fingers. I don't get much frizz at all doing this.
 
do you do a cold water rinse as your final rinse when rinsing out your DC? that can help to lay the cuticle down. ACV rinses work well too, but the smell lingers for a while. and make sure your hair is 100% dry before you take out the rollers. sitting under the dryer for atleast 15 minutes can help with the sleekness of your rollerset too.
