What are your thoughts ladies?

I posted about the Venus project in OT, but I wanted to get some thoughts from you guys as well...

Basically the idea would be to use technology to return to a resource based economy rather than a monetary based economy.
Humans are smart enough to create machines that will work with the earth's environment to feed us, provide shelter, and get us from point A to point B FAST. With this technology, there would no longer be a need for money, because we would have everything we would need. There would be no competition, which would free people from their need to compete... eliminating the "need" for racism, classism, and any other forms of division that we create as humans...

Here is the FAQ page for the whole thing if you want to read more about it...

Do you think this is possible? From everything I know about the bible I feel like it is possible but we are too wretched and sinful to pull it off

Hahaha....I know of people returning to sustainable communities. Thing is, they still have to work in the mainstream. Well, there's always going to be the poor, hatred, classicism in some way - divisions of some sort. What I'd like to know is how happy people would be with only the things they need for survival. That would seem pretty oppressive with a system deciding needs for individuals. Any system providing for sustenance becomes the new "monetary" system.

But if there is always abundance, then who would be without? How would there be poor people? We have the resources to feed and clothe and shelter 9 billion people on only 1/2 of the planet. so that means we could do double that if we wanted. and theres only 7 billion something ppl on the planet now. If we acted on creating abundance instead of scarcity there would be no need for money.

The idea is intriguing, but YES, we are too wretched and sinful to pull it off.

If all the money in the world disappeared today (and assuming everyone had to start from the same baseline), I don't see this working. There would still be corruption. There would still be wars. There would still be competition. It is in our nature as human beings, and we always find a way to bring about corruption, wars, competition.

That's what I'm wondering about...you would need a new culture and a dedicated bunch of people raising the new generation so that's what they've only seen in order for it to work. Otherwise, who determines what the abundance is? If they said that you can't have extra clothing, decorative things, etc., who decides? What is abundance and is there enough true choice for individuals to determine that for themselves?
