What Are You Going To Try Next?

Thanks a lot dear!

Well I'm confused about my porosity. I think that it might be low because the relaxed parts are much easier to moisturize than the natural parts. Sometimes the natural parts just seem to be impossible to moisturize. But at the same time I feel that all of my hair dries up overly quickly so it makes me think that I'm high po. I don't know.

Gotcha! Makes sense. :yep: At first I didn't even realize that some of my strands could be hipo and some lowpo.

The GreenBeauty Channel videos about porosity are illustrated and clarify the porosity thing fully. One of these days I'm going to get a Komaza hair analysis so I can know for sure what's going on with my hair. The 1st video explains what hair porosity is/means and what the hair looks like if highly porous versus normal versus low in porosity. The 2nd video discusses how to test for your hair's porosity. The 3rd video discusses what products to use given your hair's porosity.

I want to try the following for curl definition:

1. Rhassoul clay
2. Devacurl decadence 1 condition (I read about it here from @YvetteWithJoy: I used to lurk for long and I love her posts)

Any tips for the use of these two products will be greatly appreciated. Who is a fan of them? And do you guys think that they do indeed have the capacity to help me define my natural curls? I really really don't want to go back to experimenting with relaxer on my hair if at all possible.

@Alma Petra, guess what I found? Others who say that DevaCurl Decadence One Condition defines their curls: https://longhaircareforum.com/threads/devacurl-products.757197/. Did you ever invest in it?

Nice find, @YvetteWithJoy !!

Now I'm again tempted to order and try this conditioner. And I wonder if the effect is similar between the One Condition and the One Condition Decadence. I think I should try the decadence because my hair is more on the dry side.

But I'm also tempted to try the protein treatment. What should I do? :(

I have ordered the clay btw, I'll let you know how it works on my hair. It wasn't expensive.

Hi, Alma!

I know: There are so many different things to try that sometimes it's hard to know what to try first! I look forward to hearing what you ended up trying first and how it fared.

When I was first learning about all of these things, I kept putting off the protein treatment and kept trying product after product. I didn't know what to do! Finally, after nothing seemed to be making a difference, and when I was a few weeks away from making an appointment for a relaxer, I gave myself my first ever protein treatment. It transformed my hair! There was no way for me to know ahead of time, however, that what I really needed all along was to chelate, then apply a protein treatment to dry hair, then follow up with a moisturizing DC.

It's all just trial and error and paying attention and documenting! I'm trying to learn to have fun with it!

  1. DevaCurl Wash Day Wonder
  2. Shea Moisture Argan & Almond Oil DC (sample packet)
  3. RoyalHerbalOrganics fermented rice water bundle
  4. Water Only Hair Washing's DIY Fenugreek and Cactus Conditioner

Not products per se but just strategy and techniques:-

I will be completely cutting out wearing pony tails or any styles that creates any tension at all in my hair
Trimming on a regular schedule
Include an additional wash and DC mid week

That is it for now, but I think these are three key things that I have been slack on.

Joico just came out with a new product :clapping:
  • Joico K-PAK Color Therapy Luster Lock Multi-Perfector Daily Shine (it's a leave-in conditioner)
I'm not a product junkie, but I am a Joico junkie :yep:

Red Clay Moroccan Powder as a shampoo. I just ordered from AMAZON. I'm going to try it next wash day and see what happens.

I must admit that I love my DIY Black Soap Shampoo.

Has anyone tried the Red Clay Moroccan as a shampoo and if so, what are your thoughts?
