What are you getting your bridesmaids?

I have no idea what I'm doing yet but I'm definitely going to get them something practical that they can use.

For my cousin's wedding last year she got all of us a wine glass with our name engraved on it. I use mine all the time.

That's a really cute idea. When my sister was getting married she gave all her bridesmaids Vera Bradly travel bags. She gave us all different colors. It was nice, because my sister had a destination wedding so it was definitely useful for the trip and for future travel purposes. I use mine every time I travel, and so does my cousin who was also a bridesmaid. When my sister's friend got married she gave her bridesmaids costume jewelry. The jewelry wasn't cute and my sister never wore it.

That's exactly what I mean. Everyone's tastes are too different to give something like that. I was in another wedding 2 years ago and the bride gave us these silver cross necklaces. I like mine and have worn it since but the other bridesmaids didn't care for it.

I'm just giving something useful. I'm doing the same thing with my favors, whatever they end up being. Cutesy stuff is only cute for the day of the wedding, then people just throw it in the trash.

My BFF gave us picture frames and sent pictures of us at the wedding to put in them. It was perfect. :yep:

Sent from my iPad mini mini.

My SIL gave us jewelry to wear in the wedding. I haven't worn it since. She also gave us tote bags with our names embroidered on it. It was cute but tore and couldn't be fixed. I also got an engraved compact. It sits in a box in a drawer. Who carries a compact??

I always carry a compact in my purse. How are you supposed to check your appearance when you're out without a compact?

You are only supposed to whip a compact out though if it's gorgeous. Tom Ford said so.:lachen:

I guess i'm just not that into how I look all the time! :look: If I do need to, I use the reverse camera on my phone. *kanyeshrug*

I got my bridesmaids handmade silk lined bags, pearl earrings, handcrafted soaps (in my wedding colors), and personalized t-shirts. Two bridesmaids who went above and beyond have also gotten diamond pendant necklaces.

I ended up getting them personalized gifts and spent between $20-$25 each. One got a bangle from India that I found in tj maxx (she's Indian), one I got a pair of earrings, one a cookbook (she loves to cook and is moving to creole central so I got her a creole cookbook), my cousin I got makeup in a nice kit, my MOH I will get some nice liquor of some kind. My 2 junior bridesmaids I stocked up at bath and body works during their semi annual sale and got $80 worth of stuff for $25

Oh I didn't know I had to give them anything......hmmm I gotta think about this.

Yes, please get your bridesmaids a gift. Participating in a wedding is expensive and time consuming for bridesmaids. Between the traveling back and forth, the cost of throwing the different parties, the cost of her dress, hair, and makeup on the day of the wedding, wedding gift, etc.

A little token of your appreciation thanking them for participating is customary and appreciated. They are doing the bride a big favor by agreeing to be in the wedding.

I forgot, I am also providing a professional make up artist for my bridesmaids that would like to utilize that option. Some want to do their own.

Paying for the make-up artist, buying their accessories for the wedding, and a silk robe for getting ready. I may give my hostesses a personalized wine glass and a mini bottle of nice champagne. Depending on the price I may add that to my bridesmaid gift as well.

ETA:: The bulk price has to be EXTREMELY great in order for me to add to their gift. Shopping on sale was a lifesaver.

I gave my bridemaids customs tote bags with jewelry to wear for the wedding, foldable slippers they could wear during the reception and for when they go out and need to get rid of the heels, engraved wine glasses, a little first aid kit and they each recevied a crystal vase at the reception. They were placed on their seats. I also arranged for their makeup to be done for the wedding. My makeup artist stayed and freshened us up when needed.. She was awesome..

The foldable slippers are a really good idea.

Please do. I was matron of honor in my friend's wedding last year and she didn't get us anything. :ohwell: That was the first time the other ladies participated in a wedding so I don't think they thought anything about it.

I got my bridesmaids, including the friend I mentioned above, bracelets that matched what I thought their tastes were. I think I did pretty good picking the right one for each one.

I really like the ideas so far. Our wedding is going to be super budget (no DJ, no favors, no flowers for the venue, no fancy lights, DYI hair, makeup and nails, etc) and my dress is <$100. But I'm having a MOH so I need to make it special for her.

please get your bridesmaids something nice. It's at least 500 bucks to be in a wedding. If someone gives me soap, I will talk bad about them. We don't care about getting something in your wedding colors. If it is jewelry it better not turn my skin green.

-signed bridesmaid in 5 weddings and counting

Besides the dress (my MOH is picking out her own dress, shoes, etc), hair, makeup, etc, are you including $500 in the travel expense?

From the wedding I'm in this summer:
-dress 90 before alterations
shoes 90 with shipping (none available locally. had to be ordered)
bridal shower, includes space rental and alcohol 180 - bride is covering food...we haven't had it yet, so this is an estimate. ..favors and other odds and ends needed as well

Thanks for the breakdown! I can see where a nicer (more expensive) gift would be appropriate.

The bachelorette party is in Vegas, so plane tix, hotel, bottle service...., lets call it $500 just for Vegas.

All of the above plus the bachelorette party! We had to pay for the food, decorations, male stripper.

Also, I lived 4 hours away so I had to drive back and forth for things. Gas, tolls, time off work.

Being a bridesmaid ain't cheap!:lachen:

This is exactly what I'm doing! A small bottle of Vueve Chicquot, a monogrammed champagne glass, a satin robe with "Bridesmaid" on the back, and their jewelry. My MOH will prob get something extra from us because she's doing a lot planning my bachelorette and bridal shower weekend

Do bridesmaids pay for their own dresses? I'm never sure, some say pay for their dresses others say the bride should pay. Thoughts?

I was in a wedding a couple of years ago where the bride paid for our dresses but that was highly unusual. Bridal party usually pays for their own things.

These are all very good ideas...I love the silk robe idea and the foldable slippers. I was thinking of getting them a designer bag in my wedding colors...
