WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??????

I can't keep my flatironed hair straight.
It goes from flat to poofy in one day.

I shampoo, deep condition, blow dry, flatiron, add serum and wrap it. But it just comes out poofy.
Flatiron day vs. 2 days later.

Is there a lot of moisture in the air where you live? Your hair is beautiful btw!

Well, it has been, but now the temperatures are below zero and it's an arctic dry climate. Thank you

What lovely hair!

What do you do to your hair at night/in the shower/during the day?

I just wear it out for work, as soon as i get home i wrap it or put it in a big bantu knot. I sleep with a bonnet at night and I use a shower cap (i try to not take super hot showers).

I wonder if a BKT would help...My hair is super frizzy when curly too.

Call me crazy, but I think your hair looks good either way...the frizz is nice :)

On the rare occasion that I wear my hair straight, I always put some oil in it too to weigh it down. It usually lasts a week or more.

Wow, I remember once I straighten my hair and went out just knowing I was looking good. Saw my outline in a window, and it looked like Don King had risen from the grave. I had to start telling people I didn't look like that when I left home. I feel you.

Yeah, the oil doesn't help, it just makes it look hella greasy lol

Is your hair fine? My fine hair will frizz minutes after being flat ironed. I haven't found anything to cure it of this habit. I've learned to live with it - I just don't straighten it very often.

Sorry, I was absolutely noooo help to you! LOL!

Triniwegian you said:

Do you use any products after your wash? Also how do you apply the serum? What serum are you using?

What temperature do you use? If you don't flatiron often I'd say a higher temperature is better like 400 degrees.

If that's not an option I'd suggest blending a little bit of safflower oil with a little tiny bit of panthenol. This blend makes my hair sleek, shiny, and stronger.

I think the serum before the blow dry would do the trick. I use sabino moisture block.

Oh, and your hair is lovely.

I like a heavier heat protector before I flat iron w no alcohol in it....

when my relaxer start to get old, I have to blowdry & flat iron in smaller sections......

( yea it take longer but my hair will frizz if I don't)

your hair is pretty.
I dont want my hair frizzy until I want my hair frizzy too:grin:

My suggestion is to not use products that contain glycerin, air dry in two loose plaits instead of blow drying, add serum to damp hair (it will dry faster).

The object is to get as much moisture into the hair and seal it in so it won't evaporate into the dry air. Even hair in moist climates will suck moisture out of the air if the hair strand is dry, which causes frizzing.

Try lecithin, lanolin and/or jojoba oils to seal hair when damp and after flat ironing.

Have you ever tried petroleum/grease on wet hair? It won't dry greasy but it will seal moisture in. HTH

Aveda Smooth Infusion.. the style prep smoother and the glossing straightener. the only thing that stops my hair from doing this for up to a week, sometimes more. Overnight DCs help too.

I'm trying to find out how to stop my curlformer sets from doing this (without dropping the dough on more aveda, lol)

Maybe your hair is trying to tell you something. I would not suggest BKTing, it is just extreme heat. You basically burn your hair straight.

I have always loved your hair. It's beautiful.

Try applying serum to your damp hair and then drying and flat ironing.

I've never had BKT, and I would never consider putting it in my natural hair. If you consider it, please be careful with it.

did you say you use a bonnet after you wrap? That would never work for me. I have to tie my hair down with a scarf. That would be poof city for me no matter what type of products I use. Just a thought....

I use the CHI. the basic model with no heat setting, it's pretty darn hot.
