Wendy Williams on Lacefronts

I wasn't watchin the show but as I was doin laundry I could hear it on the tv. She was talkin about her wigs I wasn't really payin attention but I heard her make a comment that a lot of girls these days are shavin their hairline to make their wigs look more natural..Anyone heard of this?

I've never heared of this..but i would never in a milion years shave my hair line off for a wig... even before LHCF, when i was doing the most ridiculous things to my head

YES. I saw this comment on youtube a few months ago, and my jaw dropped. I didn't know it was this serious to folks. One poster asked how to make her lace wig look more natural, and someone replied:

"hi, i know you didnt ask me, but this is what a couple of my friends, as well as many other women. Shave the hairline (1/2 to 1 full inch) so as to give your wig the placement of your would-be natural hairline. this way (especially since your hairline is so close to eyebrows) you dont end up with that "neanderthal" look. my cousin did that one time. i had to let her down gently. Some are hesitant to do this, but the hair WILL grow back and your only shaving off a tiny bit anyways. hope i helped!"

I was watching that episode... I believe it. Today on Tyra some teenage girl wanted Tyra to shave off her brows...

I could believe this also. I know someone who recently told me that shes shaves her edges, but she wears a sew in instead of a lace front. I don't think it's that deep either.

I was just laying here trying to sleep, but I kept on thinking about this.
And it kind of made me mad/sad.

Why is it considered strange to shampoo and DC weekly but it's not considered strange to shave off your hairline? Baggying is considered "doing too much", but it's not "doing too much" to destroy your hairline just so you can perpetrate that the hair of a random Indian woman is actually growing from your head.

I mean...people think that this is a good idea.
But it's not a good idea to let shampoo touch your scalp more than once a month?

It's baffling. And eye-opening.

I guess if you were just going to wear straight wigs and had no intentions of wearing your own hair, then it makes sense. It wouldn't be a big deal in that case.

That reminds me of the Egyptians shaving their hair under their wigs.

When I went to the local BSS (the one in the hood) they had women set up with barber chairs applying the wigs.....Needles to say I was mortified!!! I watched for about 30 minutes dumbfounded....She shaved the front hairline, and parameter(nape and sides). The glue she used just smelled rancid!!! The razors she used was individual disposable ones (which I'm sure they will develop razor burn from the dry shaving. Horrid!! I would never do that on myself but yea to each his own

I watched for about 30 minutes dumbfounded....She shaved the front hairline, and parameter(nape and sides). The glue she used just smelled rancid!!! The razors she used was individual disposable ones (which I'm sure they will develop razor burn from the dry shaving. Horrid!! I would never do that on myself but yea to each his own

That is so sad.

I'm not a fan of weaves but there are a few women who wear sew-ins and lacefronts as a protective style or for fashion but they know how to take care of their real hair underneath. However, there are a lot of black women who don't know how to care for their real hair underneath or believe they can do just about any damage to the hair underneath because they can wear a weave to cover up the mess up. Shaving your hair line for a weave! I know they say each for their own but that's just sad. It really annoys me.
A lot of black women need to be educated about healthy hair care no matter their style choice, hair texture, hair type etc. And a lot of black women need to get the idea that 'black hair doesn't grow/only mixed or non-black women can grow hair' out of their head. If these women know that their hair can grow due to proper hair care, then I doubt many women will resort to drastic things such as shaving the hair line.

When I was first introduced to Lace fronts, that's what I was adviced to do. save the "baby hairs" around my hairline. needless to say I have never owned a lacefront.

As hard as some women try to thicken up their edges they have the nerve to shave them off for a wig ? But hey it's their hair.

ETA: I currently wear Lace front's as a protective style but now that I have started my healthy hair journey I could never go back to jeopardizing the health of my hair/ scalp for the sake of style

I wear them and love the look, I don't glue, I pin it in and would never shave my hair line, or neck hairs, that is a bit drastic but I am guessing their going to wear these hairs and never their own, but I wear it for PS not for only Style, maybe that is the difference.

I never heard of this until today though and I watch Wendy, guess I wasn't listening, lol lol

The bold had me laughing for some reason. Really? For a five-head like me and this guy, that makes no sense.

I've heard of it. I think the glue must be more damaging than shaving off your hair line. I mean, those hairs are really short anyway. Wouldn't they grow back in a couple months anyway? But I've never shaved mine so I don't know if it does long term damage.

^^They're talking about shaving up to an inch. I always find that after shaving, hair grows in rougher so I'm picturing a little fortress of an afro along the hairline looking lost after you take the wig off.

I think lace fronts are meant for people with big foreheads like mine, so I can put the wig on my forehead without the glue touching my hairline at all. I bet you I could wear a lace front and not damage my hairline.

I did it.
I wasn't worried about growing my hair, I was bald and I loved being bald. But I love wigs and a good full lace looks so much better when placed on your exact hair line IMO.
It wasn't because my hair would not grow, I shaved my head from MBL.
I have 19 full lace wigs and none are the same, I would change them all the time and some days I would shave just my hairline cause I was too lazy to shave my whole head.
(There was a time when I thought I would never grow my hair because I loved being a chameleon and you can buy hair but you can't buy bald.)
I still shave off all my baby-hairs when I wear them. My hair grows so I never worry about it.
I know a lot of people that do shave and look amazing but everyone values their hair differently. They are not wearing there wigs as a protective style it is their style.
I could have cared less then but now I have a goal and protect my hair.

I've heard of this before. This is the reason I wont wear a lacefront. My forehead is small and my hairline goes way too close to my eyebrows.

When I was wearing wigs I would get what they call a monofront. you can leave a small amount of your own hair out in the front for a natural hairline and it blends nicely over the monofront part of the wig.

They are doing it in Memphis too! I couldn't believe my eyes. Lacefronts are about to beat out weaves and braids as the most damaging styles known to a black woman's head. Damn you Beyonce and Tyra!

Disclaimer: off course all those styles can be done correctly and not damage hair, but you know outside LHCF that is not the case.

I know it sounds weird to us.... but for some ppl its just hair..... I am currently getting my cosmo license and y'all wouldn't believe the stuff ppl do to their hair..... white, black and in between all for the sake of a particular style..... I constantly sit in class with a mortified look on my face.... my classmates laugh at me and then proceed to tell me.... " its only hair, it will grow back."

I am learning I can't judge nor can I push my views on other ppl..... none of us are right or wrong its just a matter of opinion and what you choose to value.

Well, I guess shaving it is different than destroying the follicle by pulling it out with glue or something...

But I wouldn't do it unless I was SLEEPING in that wig. What if you want to wear your real hair out one day and you have a Brandy-looking hairline?
