Well, My hair spoke to me this weekend too

My hair does NOT like the harder proteins ..

How do I know? I used duotex last night and I even DC’d with a mixture of Motions Moisture Plus and Keracare Conditioner for Color treated hair and my hair was kinda hard.. hard to manage.. and it looks like crap today… its stiff and dull

Now I don’t have this problem if I use CPR, or Joico K Pak or Aphogee 2 minute (as long as I keep the latter on for no longer than 4 minutes)

Does anyone else have this problem.. I thought it was a fluke before , but it just seemed that my moisture didn’t work in making my hair soft…

I wasn't going to say it but DuoTex did not work for me either. I got nothing but tangles on the rinse out and stiff hair once it was dry even though I deep con after I rinsed. I tried it twice and I won't try it a third time.

You aint kidin! My hair HATES aphogee. Ugh it made my hair so hard and crunchy feeling even after a 45 min deep conditioning... Ugh HATED IT!

Same here, although I used to do them weekly. Now I only do them to correct over-conditioning.

I agree, my hair does not respond well to heavy protein either & it becomes a bird nest of tangles...it's horrible.:( I have backed away from most proteins at this point.

HMMM. I THINK MY HAIR DOESN'T LIKE PROTEIN AT ALL BECAUSE MY HAIR IS STILL KINDA HARD AFTER THREE WASHES (AND DC'S W/ KERACARE)- BUT IT'S MOISTURIZED...
I THINK MY HAIR ONLY LIKES MOISTURE

WHAT DID YOU DO TO RESOLVE IT???

Im gonna resolve it tonight by washing my hair  and bunning for a couple of days

Imma stick with CPR, I got a sample of BCS I might as well give it away cuz Im just gonna stick with what I know my hair likes!!!

QUOTE=Ladylynn]I feel ya. My hair hates hard proteins as well. Khandi, I use the same ones you listed with no problem.[/QUOTE]

I barely use protein at all anymore. My hair does not like it. It took me a while to get that through my thick skull. The only remedy I've found for the protein-crunch-and-dry-hard hair is to clarify, moisturize and put it up in a bun...then stay away from whatever protein caused the problem. It takes me a bit to get my hair back to normal, but I think clarifying with a shampoo without proteins helps a lot.

THANKS CICHELLE
I AM GOING TO TRY THIS TONIGHT. CAN I USE ANY CLARIFYING SHAMPOO- I HAVE SUAVE - DAILY CLARIFYING SHAMPOO??? I'M PUTTING THE PROTEIN IN THE BACK OF THE CLOSET MAYBE ONCE EVERY THREE OR FOUR MONTHS????

Thats what I was gonna say..

I Clarify and use Motions Moisture Plus or ORS RP..

and basically over condition for a few days and then go about my regular routine :)

Yeah, give it a try. Clarifying might really do the trick and follow up with a moisturizing conditioner, preferable without protein. Just stay away completely from the protein for a little while if you can...or make sure it isn't a main ingredient in what you are using.

You'll have to experiment to see how often and what types of proteins are good for your hair. My hair is extremely protein sensitive. It wasn't like that when I relaxed. But my natural hair doesn't like it. I tried many different time intervals and different products. Then I got fed up and got rid of ALL the protein. And within a short period of time, I had regular hair again. I've been through this cycle more than once because I couldn't believe what my hair was telling me.

I don't suggest you give up protein entirely, though. Just slowly experiment to see what works for you. Let us know how it goes!

Hi Khandi and SimplyCee -- are you guys by any chance leaving the duo tex on longer than the recommended 10 mintues?

I've never used a hard core protein treatment. I just don't think my hair needs one. Aubrey Organics GPB seems to do the job for my hair.

I only leave protien on for exactly the specified amount of time..

Nope. I set my timer and rinsed out when it went off and I mean the tangles were outta this world both times. I lost so so much hair trying to detangle after I deep con. The DuoTex was the only new thing added to my usual wash day reg. so I know that was the problem. Good thing it was only $5 or would be kinda mad. I had to wash and deep con with heat the next day to get my hair back on track.

Same here. My hair is doing better with using light protein conditioners every other wash vs. a hard-core protein.

But, my hair has responded well to Emergencee the few times I used it.

I gave up the hardcore 'teins, as well KB.

So I know there is a thread somewhere but what do you consider light protiens? CPR? Joico? BCS?

Joico K-pak, CPR, Aphogee Keratin reconstructor are all in my closet (although the Aphogee has been in active rotation these days). They are light for me also because I don't do anything like let them harden under the hood dryer! Actually, I don't get under the dryer at all with that the Aphogee Keratin. ( NOTE: K-pak costs to much for how heavy handed I am!! I can wipe out that $20 tube in 3 uses!)

No, you're not alone. I cannot use products that contains a high amount of protein, my hair gets stiff and breaks. However, I have no problem using products like Profectiv or the Ahpogee 2 minute hair reconstructor (as long as I keep the 2 Minute one on for no longer than the two minutes).

I'm a little confused because I thought that Duo-Tex was one of the light proteins.
I used it during my relaxer process and my hair came out great, but I never used it outside of that.
