Have you guys heard of this technique? Here's a link i happen to come across. What do you think? Would you try it?

Make sure you check out the ethnic hair section...there's something on bio ionic straightening - similar to japanese straightening.

Hey! This reminds me of this site I visited a while back about Great Lengths: http://www.greatlengths.net/

They sew in human hair one strand at a time with a machine. The price is outrageous... I think $1500 and up!

I'm sure a lot of celebrities do these things to achieve long hair. :)

i think i'll stick to my relaxers.

they never REALLY explain how you can go 4-6 months w/o a touch up.

i know others can but i can't stretch mine out. every 6-8 weeks like clockwork!!

but i'm sure it can work for others.

i know someone that has thermal reconditioning and her hair is VERY nice! i guess it all depends!?

I seem to remember that laginappe had this technique or something similar. Let me see if i can find her posts.

Dang I’m good, this was 2 years ago!

From Laginappe: “Hi, I'm currently wearing an extension called Hairlocs. I've been wearing them for a year now and I love them. Its a human hair, strand by strand method that uses no glues or braiding or heat or chemicals. I've been extremely pleased since wearing them. I've been able to take very good care of my own hair while wearing them and have even gained a few inches of my own due to the new hair care regime I had to adopt. I was so glad I found this method because, like you, the glue in method was out of the question. I have fine relaxed hair and I knew it wouldn't stand up to the rigors of the glues or chemicals a lot of the methods use (like Fusion or Great Lengths). I've never even worn braids because I was afraid of the stress on my hair. I tried a sew in weave once, and hated it because it didn't move or feel like real hair. I hated feeling the tracks when I touched my head. I actually took the class to learn the method because I wanted to be sure about it and what it "might" do to my head. I do know that they use this method to treat people with hair loss/damage and alopecia.

As far as taking care of them - it was a learning curve for me because I had a very BAD hair care regime before going with the extensions. I didn't realize how bad I'd been to my head until this past year. No wonder I always had short hair. I've since learned more and more about proper hair care and that's made having the extensions easier as well as benefited my own hair growth. Because they're human hair extensions, I take care of them in basically the same way as my own hair. I had to re-learn everything - even down to the proper way to wash and care for wet hair. But off the top of my head, I can't think of any real difference or anything really special I have to do to maintain the extensions. I tie/wrap my hair up at night. I wash at least twice a week - although right now its more because I'm wearing it curly and doing conditioning washes every other day. Even the BSM treatment worked extremely well for both. In the beginning I wore it flat-ironed straight, but now I'm on a no-heat campaign. I've been doing roller sets and love the results.

Right now I'm concentrating on maintaining what I have while I further nail down the best hair care regime for myself. My ultimate goal is to encourage my own hair growth to the point where I won't need the extensions anymore. I'm confident that with the tips I've learned here on these boards as well as other places I'll be able to do it.

Hope this helps.”

Well it is too pricey for me. But there are more than a few celebrities that should truly consider investing in this. Brittney and Paris to name a few!

This sounds cool, if I had the dough...the extensions not the thermal *I wouldn't want that* I like that the lady has them herself and she's tried other methods. :)

It is called the MicroRing system for Hair . It is when strands of your hair is incorporated with extentions and a small plastic ring is placed around your hair to add lenghth and fullness. Here is a link that shows the technique. I hope this helps.

I love that site (killforthishair), I love the befores and afters! The technique's been around for quite awhile, I think I saw Lisha Coleman do something on it about 3 years ago. She's THE HAIR WEAVE SPECIALIST, she practically featured in just about every black hair publications out there. Here's a link to the site www.Lisha.com.

This isn't too bad and it doesn't damage the hair as bonding/gluing. There are lotss of weaving techniques out there. I went in search of them and found the weave board on BHM. That place educated me on the weave process. There is even a single strand method where hair is applied to your individual strand. It takes 3- 5 days (depending on the stylist) and costs $1,500.

I think the best and saftest technique is the good ol fashion sew-in method. I've been doing this for the past 3 months and I have no complaints.

Brooke007, I have that same message from Laginappe saved in my Favs. I was going to post it but I cant find my Favorites on this new layout. I'm glad that you found it. It's something I plan on doing in the future, but for the past six years, sew-ins with the extra thin weft are working out just fine for me. Not to mention, I'd rather keep my own hair protected when wearing extensions. I'm not sure if I'd want to wear my own hair fully blended in with the extensions.
