Weave Prices-Are vendors and weavologist getting a little ridiculous?

My first install cost me $300 total ($100 for hair and $200 for install). Then I found a soror who did my install for $50 so I was only spending $150 total.

I learned how to make my own u-shaped wigs so now it only costs me about $110 ($100 for hair and $10 for the supplies). Best thing I ever did was go on Youtube and learn to make my own sew-in wigs. They look more realistic and I can take it off and put it back on every night. I also don't have to worry about not taking care of the hair underneath because I can wash my hair as often as I like. Plus, the wig has been lasting me six months. So I'm spending a $100 a year on weave versus the $600 I was spending a year.

I have never worn a weave and wear braid extensions occassionally..like 1-2 times a year using kanekalon. So, I am loss at the amount of money spent to keep up this luxury. Looking good can be achieved with your own hair. Many black women need hair education and to study what their hair needs to in order to look good rather than waste money on installs and miracle products. The latter I am also at fault but have since then changed my ways.

Some of us forget that we looked just as good if not better before the weave/fake hair epidemic/

Yes, weaves are expensive. i no longer wear weaves since my hairdresser moved to ATL. i now invest in a quality wig and alternate between that and my own hair.

My hairdresser does them for $140....it's more than a weave because it takes more time to do it, but it doesn't last as long as a weave.

I think that I'm going to wait until about 2 months post-relaxer and hope that I can keep them in for about 2 months. My hairdresser is trying to convince me that she can do a weave in such a way that my head won't get hot ...in July and August. I'm very skeptical.

Prices are still crazy for weaves. I personally learned how to to u part wigs, clip ins, my own sew ins and wear wigs and half wigs because I refuse to pay someone 150+ for a hairstyle.

I pay $80 for my crochet braids, found her on Craigslist (after reading an old thread here about braiders on Craigslist). She's done my hair about 9 times now I think. She's very gentle, but I do wonder if the actual install is damaging. Anyways, I'm moving soon, and the stylist I want to go to charges minimum $130

Weave is expensive but I won't say it is or isn't worth it. For a couple of yrs, I would buy new weaves every two months spending between $150-300 not including install. In the end of 2013, I sat down and really thought hard on why I was spending money weave in which I wasn't going to wear plus my dealings with a well known weave company put things in perspective. I ended up putting myself on a no buy but later a buy less. I ended up buying 3 times...one I made into a wig, the second set I ended up selling and the 3rd which was the most expensive hair I ever bought. It was my dream hair lol which I wore for 2 months then I re installed the hair and most likely will re install in the fall. This yr, I only bought a supplement in the beginning of the yr to add on to my last yr purchase. I haven't felt the need nor the desire to buy weave. The whole weave game has become so diluted plus the cost doesn't justify the product being sold.

Bumping this. My current crochet braider charges $80.
I haven't had braids since the end of May 2016. Got them installed until spring.

My feelings are still the same about weave. I bought weave 2x last yr but only ended up wearing one of the set. Also since I predominantly wear wigs now, I just convert the weaves I have left into wigs which last so much longer. The two wigs I wear the most was hair I bought in 2013 and 2014 so I definitely got my monies worth.

Weave hair is expensive but I don't mind paying for good quality hair. It holds up really well and lasts through many installs as long as you take care of it.

I'm happy to invest once every year, year and a half on quality hair.

What!?! Are they for real??? I don't understand this. Crochet is so easy to do yourself. But I guess if you want a really beautiful and professional install you have to pay these kind of prices. I'm fine with doing it myself, though! My installs aren't amazing but they are decent and only cost me the price of the hair ($20-30 or less!)
