I joined this website in June ish. I didnt know what dc'ing was, co washes were. I certainly didnt know henna was all that! Now I do, I feel I have been submerged into a wonderful luxurious world of hair that was previously locked away, hidden.

So why does it seem, now that I'm a member here, that LCFERS are alllll over youtube? all over blogs and such? were they always there, how did I miss them before? How come they all talk the same?" I did the Big chop in 2008" "I co wash twice a week" " this is my protective style"??? its like by my paying for the membership, the eyes of my understanding have been enlightened and I can See!

you can tell they are members of this forum or black hair forum because they all use the same abbreviations.I struggle with the abbreviations I have to admit, but i love it. Its like a hair sudoku trying to work out what the new abbreviation means, EVOO got me for a while, but I cracked it.

all I'm saying is, is there a secret handshake? a ritual? I love this forum. LCHf'ers.........I SEE YOU!

I don't know about a handshake I know we use the Niko's Cousin reference besides that I usually notice an LHCF'er by their knowledge and abbreviations. The way you can just hear their passion for hair in their voice. It's just amazing

It really is like a secret doorway once you get into it. Now I hear these phrases all over the place too and my friends and family think I'm becoming obsessed with my hair (just interested imo)

As you can see by my join date, I've been "in" for awhile. So most of the weird abbreviations don't phase me anymore. So it doesn't seem weird to watch a youtube video about "the big chop."

But sometimes I forget how "normal" people talk about hair. So when non-LHCF people ask me what I do to my hair I keep it short and sweet. My "routine" isn't even that complicated (by our standards at least), but I know that as soon as I started talking about using different shampoos for different needs, etc. I would have already gone too far for most.

I felt the same way when I joined, and even since then (2008) the hair scene has really blown up! Now I see something on TV or in Essence and I'd read about it here on LHCF a looong time ago. To answer your question, some of them are on LHCF or other boards. Some are not. A lot are lurkers who took the info they learned here and pretend to not be members (they claim to get the terminology and so forth from youtube), but that's a whole 'nother story.

I kind of think the knowledge is out there, you just don't notice it until you seek it, until it becomes relevant to you. I started researching healthy eating this summer and low and behold, there was all the info out there that I needed. I have friends who are very healthy eaters, vegans, raw foodits, etc., some with special diets (like gluten-free); they had tried to tell me stuff before, but my eyes just glazed over. Same thing with people who are heavy into fitness or whatever...the info is out there but until you care about it, you barely notice it.
