Why do i have excessive shedding on wet hair.??

I mean clumps of hair .Are they any other ladies having a similar problem as mine.

I use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners when I wash and use a wide tooth comb to detangle wet hair. I do regular protein treatments. I clarify regularly. I use purified water for my final rinse.

Also when I do a rollerset , when I take out the rollers, I get shedding too.. My products for a rollerset are a leave in conditioner, a serum and oil. No matter how smooth my roller set I always see too much hair when I comb out after taking out the rollers.

On the second and the rest of the days after wash day, I shed than 10 -20 hairs a day. I have fine hair and the amount of hair I loose on wash day is making me stress. I would like to keep as many hairs on my head as possible. I have started taking iron and vitamin C (after i had a cbc(blood test) done,i have had anemia in the past)any other suggestions are welcome.

You might be going thru a shedding phase. Hair grows in phases, so it could be a point that alot of hair is coming out. I wouldn't stress too much unless you see a discernable difference in the thickness of your hair when dry, or that the hair seems to be falling out primarily from one area. It could also be due to stress. Maybe try adding a multivitamin too.

Thanks, i take a multivitamin.

The shedding has been going on for more than 9 months now. How long does a shedding phase last?

You might try a mild protein conditioner to strengthen the strands. My fine hair is weakest when soaking wet, so I comb it while damp. Search the board for that garlic shampoo that minimizes shedding. MSM is also supposed to do this.

That happens to me every time I wash, thats why I stopped doing daily conditioner washes, I just do my regular shampoos to avoid manipulation. I lose very little hair when my hair is dry.

Tell us more about your complete regimen. Are you natural or relaxed. How often do you wash your hair? What products are you using? How do you style your hair daily? How often do you use heat? If you are relaxed, how often do you get your relaxer and who does it (you, a professional, or other). Let us know

When I used Infusium 23 leave in, I lost clumps of hair too. However, some folks swear by it so you really have to experiement with products to find what's right for you.

I lose less hair when my hair is detangled, so I saturate it with Biolage leave in, which makes it easier to comb. Perhaps you could try it.

My hair is doing this now too but I am not worried because it slowed down consdierably after I did a protein treatment. I need to start taking my MSM again, I haven't had any in 3 weeks.

Hey Aikaa, please please try the Nutrine garlic shampoo and conditioner. After years of shedding this stopped my shedding dead in it's tracks. I use the unscented -- they have both. Also, I follow with a moisturizing conditioner as the shampoo is drying to my hair.

Megonw – I use keraphix regularly as a mild protein conditioner.

Sithembile – I will try your tip, to wait till my hair is damp before I comb it. Unfortunately they are no shops here where I have seen the biolage detangler . What are the ingredients so that I can look for a similar product.

Supergirl- I am a type 4b relaxed. I wash my hair twice a week(once with shampoo the other time I do a conditioner wash). My favorite products are:
Shampoo: Keracare hydrating detangling and Soft sheen breakthr
Conditioners: Lekair(for deep conditioning), Motions Moisture and Pantene Smooth & Sleek(for conditioner wash)
Mild protein: Keraphix and At One with Nature Reconstructor
Leave in: Avacado oil, Pantene S&S or ORS elastic tea leave in(liquid type)
Serum: Keracare silken seal or Smooth n Shine
Other: Profectiv healthy ends & Scurl
This is a list of the products that I use regularly.

I usually roller set on wash day(Sunday evening) and wear my hair in an updo from Monday to the next Sunday. When I do my con wash on Wednesday I just airdry in a loose bun, then lightly blowdry when its 80% dry.I wear a bun daily making sure to switch the position and not wear the bun too tight. I use heat once a week (sometimes even once a month). I relax my hair every 8 to 12 weeks. I have my touch up done professionally. The guy who does it does it very well.

Lunalight7 – I have a bottle of infusium that I have not used yet. I will try to see whether it works for me.
Karezone – I need to start taking msm again , I use to but it did not really have much effect on the shedding.
Debyjay – I have not seen the nutrine shampoo & conditioner- I will be on the look out for these products or similar products that contain garlic extract.
Does taking garlic capsules help with shedding? My mum takes these for overall health.

Thanks to all who responded

I have found that combing my hair when wet will leave me with lots of hair in the comb. Also, are you washing your hair in the shower or sink? When I washed my hair in the sink it would end up a tangled mess and I lost a lot of hair trying to comb it out. I only wash my hair in the shower now.

I use protectiv's break free on my hair when I have alot of new growth and need to get a comb thru it but I let it air dry a bit first. John Freda's Relax serum works well on soaking wet hair but I use just a little b/c my hair doesn't do well with silicones. But it might work for you.

My hair does the same thing. I think that the hairs the shed during the NON wash days are just caught in your hair and doing a thougough detangling on wash day and when you rollerset is just releasing those hairs.
