Wash and rollerset 2x a week

I might do this when take these braids out. Do any of you ladies workout regularly? How do you maintain your rollersets?

I workout 2-3 times per week. When I go to the gym I put my hair up in a bun or ponytail and I wrap a scarf around the edges. I go in the morning before work so no one gives me funny looks about my scarf. When I take off my scarf my edges are laying perfectly and my ends are still soft. I guess the sweat helps to laying down my new growth (that's kind of gross...lol):lachen:

I don't know what it is! For the utmost slip, I did the following the last time:

clarify with vo5
dc with silicon mix
rinse out with nacidit olive oil detangling rinse
detangle under shower with Jilbere.
a little bit of sunslik hydra leave in creme
PLENTY of water

Throw on platic cap (before I get out of shower).

Now. Remove cap. Let hair hang over shoulders on top of towel (without towel drying).

Section off into mohawk. Roll mohawk. Roll sides. Before placing each roller, I detangle with Jilbere shower comb and then use fine tooth comb to get hair really smooth before rolling. Yet I still get breakage. :wallbash: hairs all over the sink....and floor I'm sure.

This is why I stopped roller setting too. I'd always get alot of breakage while combing and rolling. Even afterwards I'd have maybe 3 inch pieces of hairs everywhere. I just gave up on it for now.

how long does it take you to dry on that setting? Just curious because I am getting pibbs as a bday present and I want to know how long its gonna take me.

I wash and rollerset 2 times per week (tuesday and friday). My hair likes being washed every 3-4 days. I am looking forward to quicker drying with the pibbs... can't wait to have it...I have this broken a$$ hooded dryer that I have to hold up with my hand right now...:wallbash:

Me too and on top of that I'm turning like a spinning top drying to dry all over cause my broke down arse dryer has hot spots. Man I want a pibbs. Maybe I should go to the casino to see if i can win some $$ to get me a pibbs. Won $365 the other day. How much is a pibbs anyway hmmmmm??? Off to do a search to see where ya'lls is getting yur pibbs :yep::yep:

LOL...:lachen:...I am getting a Pibbs for my bday. The 512 model is $200--not too bad if its as good as people say and lasts 10 years or more

I wash and rollerset twice weekly, too.:yep: I dont have a Pibbs, but I do have a professional standing dryer that I purchased from Sally's.

I only do it twice a week if I have a special event to go to. Otherwise, it's once a week. I have the Pibbs 514 and the hood to HUGE!

Thanks for posting this! When I get the Pibbs, this is the model I was leaning towards. :yep: I currently use the burgundy magnetic rollers but I suspect I will graduate into the grey rollers pretty soon. So, the 514 fits grey and bigger rollers nicely?

I loooove what rollersetting does for my hair, but there's no way I could do it more than once per week. It takes me 45 minutes just to roll my hair, and about 1h15 to dry :ohwell: Unless I can figure out how to roll faster, I don't see 2x per week fitting into my schedule... that is, unless someone would like to share their speedy rollersetting secrets with me ...

I really do hope that the 514 is bigger than the 512. I ordered the 514. This morning I went to the hairdresser to get a wash and set. They rolled my hair with the Black rollers. They are pretty big. Anyway, they have the Pibbs 512 in there, and my head had absolutely NO room under that thing with the black rollers. I could barely turn my head, and it was difficult to get from under it. I just went all out and bought the 514.

^^^This is the ONLY drawback I've noted from using the 512. The narrow opening makes it a headache getting in and out without dropping rollers. I just conceded and used smaller rollers. Hey, sometimes you sacrifice for your loved ones and I love Mr. Pibbs.

I regularly wash and rollerset twice a week and dry under a hood dryer very similar to the Pibbs. When I had hair at midback, I could afford to rollerset only once a week, but with hait at waist I have no choice but to rollerset twice a week. Generally I do it in a salon next to my workplace on Wednesday, then at home on Saturday
With that length, the drying time is very long, between 1 and half hour and one hour and 3/4, despite the fact that I dry on a high setting (over 60° C which is 140 ° Farenheit)

I wash twice a week but I roller set everynight, I think it is just easier for me and my length which is almost SL. It does not take me long to roller set. I use the pink rollers to get a curly look and tighter curls which keep myhair off of my clothes. Also the curls stay in for my next wash. I dont use setting lotion. After I wash and put my leave in and seal with coconut oil then I set, but before doing all this I hold my hair and squeeze most of the water out. So it is not dripping wet. Then I use my fingers not a comb to section my hair. Before setting though I comb through the leave in and oil. Now that I dont work out as much I just comb out in the morning and then at night when I am ready to set again . I just moisturize and seal with oil comb thru and then roller set again. Sometimes the hair is not as smooth on the rollers but it still comes out very nice the next day. I dont wrap unless it is absolutely necessary.
I dont use heat to dry my hair. I just airdry. I wash in the morning and leave to airdry all day or overnight. Like I did today.

One question though. Does the size of the rollers you use affect hairbody or thickness?

I used to rollerset twice a week but now I am only doing it once a week. I have a Pibbs 514 and I used the big purple and grey rollers. I normally just put a few rollers in the middle at night. I only do it once a week because it takes me 45 mins. My old stylist can do it in 15-20 mins.

I have found that the Sunsilk leave-in doesn't provide as much slip as I need for rollersetting. I use that when I'm bunning, but I use Infusium 23 when I set my hair. My hair glides through my comb and I never have breakage. I know some ladies have had problems with Infusium, but it works very well with my hair. You probably need to find a more slippy leave-in. I've read that Lacio Lacio is great for rollersets:yep:.

The size of the rollers affect how tight you want the curls or how straight your style is going to be. I use extra large rollers if I don't plan to wear my rollerset as a style but want to smooth out or "straigten" my hair. In my experience, using magnetic rollers give me lots of body no matter what the size.

About thickness, I don't know if you mean the actual hair's thickness or the appearance of being thicker. Rollersetting can make hair "appear" thicker, IMO.

Yeah, it's a lot of manipulation for me to roller set. That's why I do it once a week at the most. Mostly I do it every 11 to 14 days.

I think length makes a difference because the longer the hair is the more chance of breakage.

You may be on to something..

I tried sunslik again and I think you are right. I don't think it provides slip

Hmmm..
Well, all I can do is tell you what I do

-- (sometimes pre-poo overnight w/Aubrey Organics Island Naturals) or use Aveda Sap Moss Concentrate)
--I wash with Cream of Nature mainly as of late---nothing is better and I've used all the expensive ones out there. Cream of Nature is really moisturizing and makes my hair very easy to detangle even before DC'ing.

---I DC with Terax Crema, Alter Ego (Coconut Mask), or Capilo Sole and Cinnamon. They are work great on my hair, are super moisturizing and all provide great slip. I DC under dryer for 45 min-1hour.

--Wash out DC with cool water. Put in my leave in (Jane Carter Solution Conditioning Detangler or Abba Nourishing and sometimes Kiehls, or Terax Botanicals). I put in the smallest amount (a real quarter size) on my ends mainly but I also run it though my entire length.

I then seal with a little (2-3 pumps) of serum and a little jojoba or castor oil.

Then I comb it through and my hair is usually untangled by now--it doesn't really tangle terribly to begin with though.
I also use a large tooth comb to detangle the sections if needed but I primarily use a small toothed comb to slick the ends onto the roller.

I also keep a water bottle near me to keep spraying the sections as I roll. I keep my hair soaking wet while rolling.

I'm not familiar with any of the products your mentioned in your routine so I don't know if they are the culprit or not. Maybe someone else can chime in to assist you.

I may try a new product. I did it again yesterday and I got breakage. I also have to remind myself that each section should be sloppy wet .
