...others are not receptive?

And of course there's a story. :look: Recently, a friend asked for help with styling her hair. Before I began, I was appalled by all of the broken hairs on the back of her shirt. She initiated a conversation about her frustration with her hair -- that it's been the same length for years now and doesn't seem to respond to any recommendations her hairstylist is making. I shared some information with her about limiting heat (she had about 6 curling/flat irons) and deep conditioning, but she just brushed me off, saying that her lack of hair growth is probably genetic (because it grows to a certain point before breaking off) -- and she could only achieve long hair with a weave. :(

I think this is so sad, but I know where she's coming from since I've had plenty of hair breakage stories of my own and used to feel the same way that she does. Now that I'm armed with knowledge about how to take care of my hair I just want to shout it from the rooftops. But I guess others have to reach their "breaking point" (no pun intended) before they're willing to put the curling irons down and stop relaxing every 4 weeks or whatever is causing breakage.

Do the rest of you feel this way? Is anyone else this gung ho about haircare? I'm a newbie, so maybe I'm hypersensitive, but it really made me sad that she wasn't even willing to hear me out. And the thing is, as my hair continues to grow, she'll probably attribute that growth to supposed "good" genes and not good haircare.

The best way to convince someone there is a better way is to show them that better way on yourself. This is something many folks on here have gone through, and have shared their stories of people coming for advice after hitting a certain length. Just let it go and wait...

Well, Ill tell you this...dont take it personal. When I first started on the forums and taking care of my hair I wanted to give EVERYONE advice, until I realized that a lot of times people have pre-conceived notions about hair from a lifetime of being taught the wrong things about hair, and most of them didnt want to hear it. So I stopped trying to give everyone advice and let my hair speak for itself! Now I have more people that run to me for advice because they see that it CAN be done. I still have the occasional questions about what ELSE I do to my hair, as if people dont believe that I did it without "special" growth aids and vitamins. I always say, hard work/patience always pays off, and Im proof of that.
