want to start a new super grow out challenge?

i figured alot of people had a reasonable amount of growth for 2005, why not start a new challenge for 2006? anyone else want to join?

Hi Hairlover,

I'm new, how do we check-in? With photos, measurements, etc?

Thanks

I'm late but I want in! I plan on co washing once or twice a week (NYC winters are brutal) keep my ends moist, use my homemade sulfur concoction on my scalp, alternate between deep moisture/protein/reconstructor treatments once a week and keep my hair in protective styles under a baggie for 3-4 days a week ( I work at night where no one cares how I dress. I figure why not get my conditioning/growth on while working?).

I'm definately in! I've found that I actually do better when my hair is shampoo'd and conditioned often! It's weird but true. So I will be shampooing and conditioning every 2-3 days. I will moisturize a lot and constantly protective style. I will get my hair pressed once every 3 months to see progress and also to get trims.

atl_Mul, I think that your method sounds great! In fact this is what works for me too! I have ubber thick type 4a hair and I feel the trick to keeping it soft and nap free is washing it and conditioning frequently! This works for me, I follow the Cathy Howse regime loosely as well and I've never had any ill effects washing my hair 2 or 3 times a week.

Great. Thanks, I've also got my mother in on this. She's a 3b/3c but is suffering from a tremendous amount of breakage. I told her b/4 posting about this site and that I'm going back to CW's. Too funny.

This is exciting. I need the accountability.

Good luck everyone!!!!!!!

Ok I measured and the longest part is now Bottom BSL stretched after I trimmed, it was that pressed before so this is my starting marker BBSL+1 officially I flat ironed a part

bumping...
Well, time for an update...
first I have not been posting a lot because I have been on 12 hours a day for 3 out of 6 days a week... So I have been dead tired... I am catching up now and I have up dated my album with a few pictures...
I will be getting a touch-up this Wednesday after a 10 week stretch... This was the longest stretch I have ever done... I must say that it went very well... I only had a few times of excessive shedding when I did not moisturize enough... I also kept the breakage down too with CW's and Scurl and Soft & Beautiful Botanicals Moisturizing Braid Spray(this stuff is a miracle product for stretching... when used before applying Scurl and moisturizer, you will not loose on hair)...
I have at least an half inch to almost an inch of new growth in various areas...
When looking back at my other pictures and comparing the length... it looks like I have not gained much... I hope that I am experiencing an extreme case of shrinkage due to the new growth... I will find out soon...
Well, I just wanted to up date...
Next stretch 9 weeks...
Next touch-up July 8th

Update:
I've made a big switch in products to all natural, no carcinogens or parabens. so I gave up the Scurl and it was hard, but I've found natural products that work just as good and better.
No shampoo-I've given it up for good, I just CO for "wash" and then deep condition, my curls love it.
I'm now 2" from WSL, longest layer.
I was thinking about evening things up, but I'm so close and I want to wait until I pass my goal a little then I'll do a small 1-2" cut.
All my update details and pics-click the regime siggycard.

Here's an UPDATE: As of June 5th 2006 I have cut off several inches on my entire head not just the back and sides as usual..my reason.. I got cornrows, then a weave and I tried to keep that up to the best of my ability...but...this last time I took out the cornrows; My hair was extremely weak, thinning on the ends. Despite the length, because it had grown.. I could not take the detangling and being extra careful for my overprocessed ends..

These ends had (from years before LHCF) A texturizer, No Lye relaxer, COPA, color, bleached then re-colored, and finally two different types of LYE relaxer... THEY WERE DONE!

So, I decided to Chop off all my progress or at least a 1 1/2years worth..and I'm going to start again, but this time with lesss fragile hair (fingers crossed)...

i have bc'd so now i'm natural (1 year and counting) i guess it will about another 2 years before i see waistlength hair, but oh well, it was worth it. now i have healthy, thick, hair instead of dry, brittle hair. how's everyone else doing with this challenge? good-luck to all. :rosebud:

i'd like to join but i am shampooing with castile soap or hemp shampoo or neem shampoo every other day. Would that present a problem or is it still ok to join?
