Well, I think the ones who are educated about hair have long hair, but the ones who still have the "you have good hair and mine won't grow like that" mentality..still have short hair. I've lived in Georgia my whole life and I'm just now starting to notice black women with long hair. It's more prominent in the ATL, I'm sure, though!! I live in SSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUTHHHHH GA!! We're still trying to catch up on a few things down here!!

On a side note...my sister is 1 inch from bra strap!! I just noticed this!! I"m sooo jealous! I washed, surged, and moisturized her hair on monday and told her to go to LHCF and really learn how to care for it. She could have waist length hair sooon!! All she does is wash it once a week and then put it in a pony tail until she washes it again!! How simple is that. We've always had long hair genetically though!! AWWW that darn big chop!!!

one thing to remember... larger cities get new and better products = better salons than a smaller city would, and alot of it is common sense ( when dealing with hair ) I know here in nashville women like to pack grease on their scalps

.to see a black woman here w/ her own natural long hair is very rare. but the problem is here " very few beautician & non beauticians know what the devil their doing!!!!! ( don't get me wrong, their are some excellent ones here but you have to "dig" and find them!

The longest my hair has ever been is in NYC.

The South does have moe traditional methods which is great if you have a good stylist, but finding one is the key. If you don't need a stylist you may be better off down south. ATL and Miami are probably different birds, because both are actually hair meccas.....

I'm originally from the south but lived in Philly and during that time my hair was never long mainly due to going through different style periods but now I'm back south and my hair is much longer. I decided never to cut it again only trims, I keep it moisturized and the humidity adds to the moisture. One thing I have learned is it's best for me to do my own hair here because of lack of knowledge in others including beauticians, if it were up to others taking care of my hair I'd have none so I think it's what you know too!

I'm in Nashville and I see long hair and I see short hair. I think it mainly depends on the individual. One thing about here though is that people will get weaves if their hair is long or short. We sure aren't afraid of a little quickweave, sewed weave or wigs!!!

When I was in high school here almost everyone had at least shoulder length hair. I think that was mainly due to the popularity of the rap bakc then though.

one of my best friends lives in Nashville now.

I notice here in FL a lot of girls get weaves regardless of hair length too...there was a girl I used to work with who had about 3 heads of hair, as a matter of fact she wore sew ins that were much shorter and not nearly as thick as her own hair. her hair reminded me of a huge lions mane, I think it was probably too much for her to handle. she used to always wear phony ponies in between sew ins and she would wear her own hair for a few days here and there.
