Wear your hair in a bun 98% of the time and take it down one day (from your bun of course!), blow it out, curl it and watch how people react. Ladies don't underestimate the power, intrigue, attraction and fascination of HAIR (
laugh.gif
like anyone here would)
I took my hair out of my faithful trusty bun for 2 days and the response was very postive. Keep it up, Ladies. The world loves long hair....
sing it with me "what the world needs now... is hair, long hair...."

This is so true ...especially among ballet dancers. We only recognize each other, when we have a bun in our heads, wearing tights, leotards ...! I remember the reaction the first time some people that I dance with saw my hair down ... it's funny.

Do you really wear your hair in a bun 98% of the time?

Ballet Bun ...

i experienced that before too. cause usually i don't wear my hair down a lot, and when i did it was like the world stopped turning or something. but you know how people exaggerate all the time. it get on my last nerve:)

OT...
That reminds me of the time I saw a male trainer from the gym in a restaurant on a Friday night. It took me a good 30 seconds to realize who I was talking to. Then I blurted out, "I almost didn't recognize you with your clothes on!"

This is true, my co-workers are getting a little suspicious. I'm beginning to hear 'take your hair down, I want to see how long it is" It's like they don't want it to get too long and then I just spring it on them. I only wear my hair in braids or bun, I only take it down at night or if I'm swimming. Sometimes I get amazed at the growth.

Caramela,

You are so right. Having had long hair for quite a few years now, it has gotten me quite a lot of attention. (I love it!) Now I'm wearing it up a lot and it will be interesting to see the shock factor when I finally wear it out again.

There are three long-haired (to their waist) women at my job and everyday I am fascinated by them. Two of them wear their hair down 100% of the time...meaning in a long braid, ponytail...basically where it shows their length. There's another woman I've become friendly with and I'm dying to ask her about her hair. Anyhow, she wears a bun about 80% of the time.

One day, I was waiting in the hall for something and there was this woman there with long flowing hair. I only noticed the hair when I finally realized it was this woman who I had completely ignored b/c I didn't recoognize her with all of her hair down! Can't wait for this to happen to me one day.

Yes, this is definitely true. I was at my family reunion yesterday. One of my aunts from out of the area asked me if it would be any trouble for me to take my hair down so she could see the length. She hadn't seen it down in a long time. I'm sure I shocked a quite a few relatives there.

This is a good thread. The comments go something like this:

*oooo girl, I didn't know you had all that hair!
*Is that really all your hair? (bold people)
*Girl, the people at church are gonna think that's a weave!(mom when you decide to go to church with her one Sunday)

and yes the "take your hair down" one.

That is why I decided to take on the bun/chignon challenge...not so much to shock others but to really to shock myself!
rofl.gif
Just the other day my supervisor did not believe that he bun I was wearing was actually my hair, she thought it was a piece...we have a christmas party in Dec so I think that is the only time during the year challenge that I will take my hair down and show off my length and curls
clap.gif

I done this before and when I took my hair down people were shocked they taught that I wore my hair up because my hair was damaged but when I let it out they were totally amazed.

I got the same thing the first time I grew my hair out! I think I was more shocked than everyone else! Right now everyone sees me in either braids or a pony puff (texturized) so I get the question about how long my hair is when straightened. I am going to do the pony-bun between braids and reveal my length in June '04 when I graduate.

Did I mention I'm doing three challenges?
clap.gif

Crown and Glory (if you can call it a challenge).
Bun challenge
No heat challenge

Do yall think I'm a little hair obsessed?
laugh.gif

I also wear my hair in a bun 98% of the time. I haven't had my hair out in about 2 months (after my relaxer). I am going for the
shocked.gif
factor within the next few weeks.
p.s. i love it when someone (i know of course), says my hair has grown and than touches it...u know, 2 make sure it's mine. That always cracks me up
laugh.gif
.

I feel ya ladies . Although I never wear my hair in a bun,I do sport my hair in different hair textures and styles and I get the same results. i.e:

Wet braid out-Which causes alot of shrinkage sometimes so the true length doesnt show.

Dry braid out- hair still has shrinkage but appears thicker and fuller.

Straighten roots and dry braid out- this allows the length to show and its sleeker while being just as wavy as ever (love it!)

Hair completely straight- This one really gets people because they say,"wow I didnt know your hair was so long"

Most people ask how do I get my hair to look so different all of time, usually caucasian women. Its really nice to be noticed and have people react to my hair on a daily basis

I actually have a date marked on my calendar (in October) to wear my hair down. My hair is not that long yet, but it was sooooo short when I started that I'm sure people will still get a shock. I've been wearing a phonytail and I'm not gonna stop! (Till that date, or course)

i enjoy compliments more so on how i get my hair to look different all the time...from my own ppl and other ethnic ppl i encounter daily..its funny i think ppl really think that blk ppl only have their hair in one or 2 ways..str8 or braided....i am like if one white/blk sat down one day and just experimented with their hair using water..moisturziers...pomades..and etc..they could really change their look up from day to day...a lil creativity works wonders

I look forward to the day when I can wear my hair out on a regular basis (24/7/365)

I remember going to an Aveda salon to have it deep conditioned. When it was washed, it was about mid neck level - but - after it was blown out (3 people using 3 blowdryers on my hair at one time - one stormed off but ohwell
ohwell.gif
), all eyes in the salon were looking
shocked.gif
Guess they had never seen that before
ohwell.gif

Tried to wear it out during travel once - got quite a few stares then as too ...

I'm picturing your blowdryed hair was like the model in my sig right now.. Thats a LOT of hair. I guess her arms got tired

You know I was just talking with a co-worker yesterday who asked me "what was I trying to accomlish with my hair?" She doesn't understand why I stopped going to "professionals" who have overprocessed my hair for years (thanks to the ladies here I know that). She went on to tell me that my hair was going to be damaged and not grow. I think it's funny because since she hasn't seen the length of my hair in several months she just assumes it's not growing when I actually have grwon back 2 of the 3 inches I had to cut because of the "professionals"

Co-signing what everyone said.
smile.gif

With me, I don't sport buns, but rather wavy looks, and this results in a lot of shrinkage. The last time I wore my hair straight to church, it was amazing how people reacted. This is what inspires me not to wear my hair straight all the time. I love the shock factor.

Hi Egyptiansand

Well, she was trying to "make it straight" in a way that works for white hair. She took a brush (to me which pretty much had no bristles) and was wrapping my hair around it and then putting *direct heat* on my hair
mad.gif
She was tugging my hair so hard and wrapping it so much that I was surprised that my hairs didn't abandon ship
mad.gif
I told her to stop doing it - we had an exchange, she got mad, and then walked off - which was good for me
