This is all that needs to be said about this case: "U.S. officials' main concern is that visa applicants want to stay in the country illegally, said John Echard, a State Department spokesman. "They have to convince the [interviewer] they have sufficient ties and would return to the country of residence," Echard said. He stressed that religious delegates are treated no differently than other applicants."These people are not being treated any differently from anyone else who wants to enter the country.
This case is really simple. They did not have the correct VISA to enter the country. They were told which VISA they need. They are opting to make a stink instead of applying for the correct VISA. Travel restrictions have become much more stringent since 9/11. Americans can no longer leave and re-enter the country without a passport now. They need to follow the new rules just like everyone else!
In the first case in this link, the pastor has a criminal conviction in England. Even though it was expunged in England, it is still a conviction and the US always holds people with criminal convictions in their home countries to higher standards... thems the breaks! It is unclear what was in the priest's background that caused trouble for him. They don't discuss it in the article but looking at the timeline it appears he overstayed his VISA which generally will get people deported.
What's up with this?
It seems to me that these are not cases of the US persecuting Christians but instead cases of Christian ministers feeling the rules that everyone else have to abide by do not apply to them!
But the point is why are they cracking down recently, while others get a free pass. One cannot dismiss this by using the law when the law is not being applied equally to all.

They actually have been cracking down on everyone. The reason it seems to you that they are picking on Christians is because you are getting your news from Christian sites so that is their focus. In the last two to three years they have been deporting more people across the board.
