One of two things can happen- teh braider gets a beat down or you guys help me out. I had cornrows for one month and I took them thangs out today. Why has the front of my hair broke bad enough for my family and friends to notice? I called the braider and asked her what could she recommend I use? She told me Organic Root Stimulator Temple Balm for natural hair. I cannot be mad at her although I am because she did not braid the hair tight. I am VERY upset. I have cried. I am sure everyone hear knows the importance of the hair looking good. That is why I am posting this. I am really upset because I was treating my hair oiling it including the edges. What can I do and how long is it going to take for this hair to grow back? Today I washed it with creme of nature detangling shampoo (green and white bottle) and motions cpr conditioner. I towel blotted it dry. My hair is natural and about 3- 4 inches long when not blow dried. What can I do? HELP!

I never had braids professionally done before, but I have a friend that this has happened to. Everyone's hair is different, I know for her that she was NOT taking care of the hair while it was braided. Did you remember to wash, deep condition to oil the braids? How long did you have them? I know a good reconstructor that should help...it's a bit expensive but it never fails. It's Nexxus Emergencee reconstructor. If you buy this, you have to buy the moisturizing conditioner Humectress-by Nexxus also- to balance the hair out. It will probably help us out if you posted your regimine while your hair was braided. Did you do anything dramatic to the hair before the braids? Fill us in girl!!

Oh yeah, were the braids your own hair or weave? Also, was it synthetic or human hair? If it was synthetic, this can damage the hair because it suffocates it and absorbs oil faster than the human hair...

Thanks everyone. Cami, the braids were synthetic cornrows and I thougt I was taking good care of them. I will NOT be getting them again. I had them in for exactly one month. Any products besides the Nexxus emergency that I should be using? Obviously, I will not be going out much and will be wearing a stylish hat when I do!

Mstankers, I'm so sorry that this happened! I agree with your not wanting to get them again. I have used ORS Temple Balm, and it is pretty good. Some ladies here have had good results with a temple balm from Profectiv, and it's a lot cheaper than the ORS. Either way, keep us posted. We're here for you, girl!!

OH no don't do that. When one thing in your life goes wrong try to think of the other attributes that you have. Look at Halle Berry her hair is short. Try to find sexy and exciting styles that you can wear.

Maybe you had this problem becuase you used synthetic hair. I dont think oiling the hair is good while in braids. The oil causes buildup which leads to breakage.

Get a nice wig. I know, I know! Summer is here and that thgouth just seems crazy. Go to www.nappturality.com you can find many pictures of ladies with short naturl hair and all of them are quite attractive.

good luck

Thanks. Tomorrow morning I am going to the beauty supply store in order to get a product. Since I have never tried Profectiv I might try that. Girl, my feelings are so hurt. I know I am not the only one it has happened to but it still feels like I lost $150

Unfortunately this has happened to me too. Now, my case may be a little bit different because I wore cornrows off and on for about a year...but...I've been alternating Nioxin Follicle Booster, ORS, & Protectiv since last July...and....my hairline still isn't 100%. I hesitate to tell you that because I know you are already upset. Again, everyone's hair is different and yours may grow back a lot faster. I guess the moral to this story is if you even THINK your hair is being braided too tight stop right then and there. I know this is a broad generalization, but it seems like African braiders braid REALLLLLLY tight. I have had my hair braided by Aficans, Americans, and someone from Trinidad and I've only experienced tightness and damage after going to the Africans.
