Urgent Advice Needed for Haircoloring Mishap!!!

No, it's not me!! :look: I have a co-worker who has recently colored her hair w/Dark & Lovely (Monday) trying to go to an ash blonde and ended up with orange and lighter hair (almost blonde in some parts). She said she applied the color to the new growth but forgot and put on a plastic cap on for the duration of the processing time. She also said she has clumps of hair coming out when she washes so now she's afraid to do anything to her hair. I've offered what advice I know for the situation.

I advised her against doing any more chemical treatments for quite a while. I'm not sure she'll listen. She seems to be more concerned with the color of her hair than the condition. :(

With that having been said, is there anything she can do to get the color back down to a light brown, brown or black that won't further damage her hair? I thought of Bigen but I'm not sure about the ingredients.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated, who knows, she may become a LHCF convert.

TIA,

VWV

Wow, that's scary. I'd start with a keratin reconstructor for the breakage and a temporary dye like natural instincts (but not the black one).

girl! I ranin here because I thought it was you! 2 days before the big day. whew! :)

Gurl!! Puh-leaze!! I don't want to do ANYTHING new to my hair, no henna nada! In went and bought some of the Motions Plus Conditioner but I'm gonna wait til Sunday! :look:

She needs to do a semi permanent color. I liked Beautiful Browns. They sell it at sally's for a great price or any BSS for that matter. Gentle and won't further harm her hair.

Whew! I thought it was you, too! Anyway, like the other poster said, I would do a heavy protien treatment then moisture. And NO MORE chemical hair dyes at all. If anything, a henna treatment will at least make her hair stronger, so long as she heeds the "BAQ henna only" rule.

Only 2 days until the big day? Mazel Tov!

Ditto. She needs the big Aphogee Protein Treatment, a brown rinse, some WGHO and a bun. Definitely minimize the manipulation. She's going to have to leave it alone for a few weeks.

Thanks for the recommendations ladies! I'll pass along the advices...

She's not interested in using henna at all, too much work. In the 3 years I've worked with her, I have NEVER seen her wear her hair. She's not a protective styler, she just doesn't wear her hair at all. She said hers is thin and unhealthy but I can't interest her in taking care of her own. Maybe this incident will make a difference.

I'll also suggest the beautiful browns, my mom used to use those.

Hey HoneyDew

How do you use your Motions Plus? Is it better as a after poo? How long do you leave it in, should I use heat or apply to dry hair and maybe steam?

Okay Motions gang chime in!! :D For me, it seems to be bad if I leave it in too long. It is better to use it just as the bottle says, I think 15 min with a plastic cover. I do use heat, but some don't. I think khandib just leaves hers covered w/o heat. A steamer would be

Also, it does not seem to be as good for me as a quick rinse conditioner when I don't have time to leave it on for the 10-15 min. I have to use something else for that. It is best for me after a poo, though.

The Motions has impressed me because it gives shine and softness and it rinses very well to be such a thick conditioner.

I do mine the same as Khandi about 15 minutes with a cap. I use it every single time that I shampoo! I love it even when I don't have the time to leave it on for a longer period of time. It leaves NO BUILDUP! Just clean, shiny hair with slip for DAYS!

Vixen your friend might benefit from the CPR as well. That's what saved me from being completely bald after I bleached and then colored my hair when it was almost BSL a few years ago.

You scared me for a minute. I was like  you are getting married this weekend and having hair color mis-hap?

She can try using a rinse everytime she wash. that should tone it down since she would be going from a lighter color to a darker color.

the same thing happened to me right after high school. I wanted my hair color to be like TBoz of TLC I already had the cut.My hair turned out bright orange and it was dry and frizzy. It was a mess!!!!!!I did a lot of cholesterol treatments and used Fermodyl leave in after this happened. I also covered the orange color with black rinses until the orange color grew out but I had a lot of my colored hair trimmed off as the new growth came in.

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! :)

You'll have to let us know how you wedding was! I'm sure it will be beautiful!

the same thing happened to me in regards to the orange color.. i went str8 to the beauty school in midtown so the specialist could see my hair and fix it... i had to re-color it ..and do a protein treatment so...luckily my hair is still on my head but i was sooo peeved like OMG im carrot top...lol

Thank you ladies for the tips..

I'm compiling them for her and hopefully she'll heed the advice, though I doubt it seriously. What can we do?

:rosebud:

I wouldn't recommend using bigen. It could be just as damaging. Since her hair is a lighter color she could just pick up a color rinse of her choice. But just don't use straight black because her hair will turn green. If she wants her hair back to a natural black I would suggest either getting a black with red in it or mix an off black rinse with a litte bit of red rinse.

Thanks ladies...

Update: I went home yesterday during lunch and brought her my ORS Mayo, Aphogee Reconstructor and Aphogee Keratin and Green Tea Leave-In... with strict instructions on what to do.

She told me this morning that she washed her hair and a large clump came out in the front right side. She says there is very little hair there. What she did was take the Aphogee after washing and put it in, put in a net cap over that and then put her wig on. :wallbash:

Came back to say thank you ladies for your input!

My friend's hair is doing much better, the breakage and shedding has stabilized and she's leaving that color alone! Now, I'm trying to teach her about moisturizing her hair while it's braided...that's another post!

Thanks again ladies!
