**UPDATE: Breakage O-V-E-R!**

Hi guys! Some of you may re-call my story about being overprocessed & my constant breakage. Well, I spent the entire summer battling breakage & lost 4 inches of my hair. I was sooo frustrated b/c as i got my summer growth spruts, i was cutting my damaged ends or my strands were breaking off. I ended up being the same length as I was the beginning of this year.

Well, i tried EVERYTHING on this board...protein, moisturizing treatments & both. Then, i just gave up & got tried of doing stuff to my hair that wasn't working. A stylist told me I would have to cut off all my hair & start over. I was about to agree UNTIL......my breakage stopped. I dont know exactly what stopped it, though I suspect my Egg Treatment. but here's what happened:

August 27th: After a 3month stretch, I finally relaxed with Affirm, Mild! Which was washed off immediately after application.
** After my relaxer, i noticed a lot of improvement in my hair's look & texture & the breakage reduced.

September 5: Did box-braids. Washed & DCed weekly. Moisturized daily with African Pride & Infusium/Aphogee Keratin (Thanks Qtslim)

September 27: Took braids out. Pre-pooed with mixture (real mayo and 2 eggs) for 15mins. Washed with Keracare hydrating poo, DCed with mix of Keracare Dry & Itchy Scalp and Humecto. Did final ACV rinse. Applied Salerm 21 leave-in & sealed with Keracare Silken Seal.

I airdryed & flat ironed my hair. I heard somewhere that a good way to tell if your hair is damaged is to flat iron it & see how responsive it is to heat. If unresponsive, then your hair is possibly damaged. I am happy to report that after my hair airdryed it looked so good. It curled up like it used to do. I was so happy I almost left it that way. While flat-ironing, my hair straightened nicely. Except my thick NG. But MOST IMPORTANTLY, i lost very fewstrands and that was in the shower, and NO BREAKAGE THRU THE ENTIRE PROCESS. I didnt even notice until I went to the bathroom to sweep up the broken hairs, like i usually do, and...NO HAIR! :yay:

I cant stop running my fingers through my hair. Because for the first time since JULY no hairs are falling out. I can see short area where strands broke off but that's ok b/c the PROBLEM'S SOLVED. I can stop fighting my hair now. I am finally at peace.

ETA: I really wanted to share this b/c i've seen a lot of breakage cries for help. I hope all you ladies find the right solution.

Nice post. It's good to hear success stories, especially concerning breakage. That is something all of battle at one time or another. Good for you!! :flowers:

Congrats on your breakthru! I've used the egg treatment before, and I could tell an immediate difference.

Wait what? The red part, is it true? How can you tell?

Good for you! I am glad you found a solution to your problem. :yep: Breakage can be so discouraging, especially if you're doing everything "by the book".

I truly believe there is something to be said about low manipulation. I've noticed a major difference with my hair just leaving it alone for a period of time. I only comb once or twice a week but no more than that. It goes back into this boring-a$$ bun. ;)

Glad your breakage stop. I had the same breakage. I think I lost about 3 inches and thinned out. I've been pre pooing doing the ORS Mayo/Aubrey GPB and my hair has really grown and gotten thicker again. I did you a different relaxer but I only got regular because they only had regular and super strength. Using mild next time.

Thanks, ladies! I am sooo thrilled. You're right, Jasmine, my hair has thinned out but I plan to pre-poo with the egg mix for a while to thicken & strengthen it. But dont worry BrooklynSouth, my hands are going to be hands off! In fact I plan on doing a weave in 2weeks. For a while, i'll be using extensions to hide my hair but only for a max. of 1 1/2 mnths...i dont trust those things.

God's Anointed: I dont know the theory behind the flat iron but I do know that on my Birthday, pre-relaxer, I tried to flat iron my hair but it was unreponsive and looked fried & dry! It just looked like rafia! But now the flat iron is gliding down my hair. However, I dont plan on flat ironing frequently. I'm a rollerset girl. This was just a test.

Yeah!!! Girly!!! I'm so glad that you did not have any breakage!!!!! Keep it up, that is right now stay out off your hair!!!:lachen:

Yeah Good News! I'm glad to hear you solved your breakage problems. I'm sure your steps will help many. Thanks for sharing. I've found that low manipulation (braids/twists), daily moisturizing & returning to my natural hair have made the difference in killing breakage/increasing the thickness of my hair. It definitely feels good when you finally find what works for your hair.:yep:

This is so awesome!!! Congratulations!

Maybe it'll save many ladies some inches by realizing they don't have to chop off hair just because there's some breakage. It's not always bad ends ya know?

What's the egg treatment? Are you just mixing an egg into your conditioners? Applying it directly to your hair?

I'm curious to know about these details because my hair is starting to break off mad crazy right now probably due to stress. I used Aubrey Organics GPB and that has definitely helped but I'm always intersted in other methods.

You have given me hope!!!

I'm going through a breakage spell right now. But I doubt its because of over processing. well, maybe it is but not in the usual way. I've always heard about the relaxer getting on the already relaxed parts of the hair as you rinse. Maybe the hair that's breaking off just couldn't handle it. I just started using lye and the hair that's breaking off was relaxed with no lye. I don't know.

what is your egg method? I'm very interested.

Hi Ladies. I understand completely how painful breakage is.

The Egg Treatment is very simple.
1) Just mix real mayo (from grocery store) with Egg (I used two eggs) until mixture is smooth. [My mixture was runny, not thick]
2) Apply on your hair in sections. This makes sure u get it in all the strands.
3) Cover hair with shower cap for 15mins. DON'T USE HEAT!
4) Rinse out with lukewarm water.
5) Wash with moisturing Poo
6) DC with moisturizing conditioner

Finally, try not to load up too many products in your hair. I just applied a leave-in, airdryed, then lightly applied a heat protectant & flat-ironed.It's Day 2 & still no breakage when I comb. I just washed, DCed & rollerset, and still no breakage. Im going to pre-poo with my egg treatment for the next few wks to build up my hair's strength & thickness.

HTH! :yep:
