has anyone else had a problem doing this in the past? one of the other posts made me think about it. i used to do it ALOT i mean i had multiple spots the size of a quarter in my hair more times than i can remember just because i kept pulling my hair out on purpose. i think it was relaxing me or something, still not sure why i was doing it. i catch myself now when i start doing it after maybe 3 hairs in a row. Keeping my hair out of sight (in a bun) is also helping tremdously. just curious if others had this problem or experienced it in the past. thanks--jainygirl

I do it,especially when I am close to relaxer time, I get these sore spots and it is very painful until I find just that hair or hairs and pluck them out. There have been times when I couldn't find the right hair and made a bald spot.

I've heard of people doing this. I think it's called trich- something.

Yes I do it too. I pull out the hairs one at a time. kSome people do it b/c of their nerves but I do it because I like how it feels. In a day I may pulls anywhere from 1 to 10 hairs. Putting my hair in a bun helps me too.

I did this really badly when I was in college. But, I plucked hair from my arms and legs. I think it was a stress-reliever in a way. I was under a lot of pressure during my freshman year. I really can't explain why I did it. It didn't necessarily feel good, but it was still relieving in a wierd way.

I've started doing it only recently b/c I'm transitioning and want to see the spirals at the root of the hair. I've gotta stop myself though before I go bald!

in high school when my hair was damaged, this girl tugged at my ponytail and a real big chunk of hair came out. I wanted to cry so bad... embarassed.

Thank God that I learned how to take care of my hair.

trichotillomania

hair pulling frenzy.
It is a nervous condition. I have been dealing with it for years- I had a friend who was severe and literally pulled herself bald- to the point where she had to wear wigs. That is part of the reason I wear braids- it hinders my ability to get to the hair.

Re: trichotillomania

Thanks for the link mermaid, i'm gonna check it out.

Re: trichotillomania

No problem! Just be warned- the site is pop-up heavy (angelfire- notorious for it).
One more thing- I have to say how cool it was that you brought it up on a site so dedicated to hair GROWTH, you felt comfortable enough to bring up pulling it out! That says a lot for you and LHCF.

Re: trichotillomania

Awe thanks Mermaid

that's what i love about this sight. youre not made to feel like you can only talk about certain things like only long hair or only natural. this is something i experienced at other sites and made me leery of joining another online hair community, but everyone here is great

very, very supportive group of women.

I used to do it when I was younger, no idea why it started or when it stopped.

Now I just have the tendency to tug out a grey hair when I find one!
