Trimming ends myself....

I was looking at Lavendars's fotki and I was wondering is there a way I can do the ponytail(s)method but still keep my "V". I was thinking for the ones that have seen her fotki can I put the ponytails closer to my hairline and snip, will that keep me with my "V"? If you have a easy way cause this will be my first time please post it. TIA

How do people effectively trim the middle and lower back of the hair, where there are blind spots? I'd be a bit nervous to do it myself.
