Transitioning with braids?

Hey,

I'm currently 3 months post and my new growth is stagnant. I have been using MT and OCT to speed up growth, cowashing regularly, and bunning but to no avail. I was wondering if any of you ladies who are natural/transitioning tried braid extensions for the majority (like 80% +) of your transition? Did you find that it sped up the process? Did you find that your hair grew at a faster rate from being hidden? HELP!

I think the more you worry about the speed of hair growth the less change you will see. If that makes any sense? I would suggest just doing your normal thing and by the time you big chop you will see the progress...you have to remember that new growth has crazy shrinkage so it may not appear that your hair is growing at all when in fact it is.

I transitioned for almost 6 months with micros.

My growth was tremendous. My hair didn't grow faster than usual but it seemed like it because the low manipulation helped me retain all my length.

You have to be careful with braids though. Make sure they aren't too tight around your edges and make sure you keep them moisturized. I'm lucky I still had hair when I took mine out because I thought since it was braided I could neglect my hair. Not true.:nono:

Good luck with your transition!

I transition for 7 months using only braids, but had a relaps and got a relaxer after I took down my hair. I regretted getting the relaxer. I am transitioning again. Good luck!!

I went natural both times through braids. My hair didn't grow faster with braids but I did keep all my length because the hair had been protected. Just take the usual braiding precautions and enjoy the time away from your hair..lol.

I transitioned for 8 months with braids and weaves... I wouldn't say that it sped up my growth but I can say that it stopped a lot of breakage I would have had otherwise...

I am in month 20 of my transition right now. I've been doing cornrows on and off. and right now I'm in Kinky twists. Being braided helps cut down on the aggravation of the 2 textures but note that braids and hiding your hair will not make it grow faster. You can see the styles in my 07 & 08 fotki albums.

The concept of hiding your hair is to avoid frequent manipulation and damage to the hair that you already have.
