I did the BC on Tuesday, December 12. I was going to do it in January. Then I saw this girl who's hair was just GORGEOUS. So, I called my stylist to see if she could get me in this week, but she couldn't. I had already warned DH that I was going to get it cut. He's not impressed with the idea of me going natural. So, I looked up the thread about ladies that BCed themselves. Then I went upstairs and did it. I did it mostly on dry hair. And I just used my conditioner spray mix for spots where it was hard to find the demarcation line.

The next day, I wore a fall. And that night I did twists, for a twistout the next day. The second day, I took the twists out. And I got the confidence to rock my TWA to work. I know, after all that on how I admired those that had the confidence to rock the TWA. Now I can admire myself too. :D I figured, if I totally disregarded how my HUSBAND felt about my hair, why the H%$# should I care about what people at work thought. So, I wore my hair out. And to boost my confidence even more, everyone at work LOVES it on me. It's still growing on me though. It's just been a minute since I've had short hair.

I'm a little confused about my hair though. Because my new growth was extremely soft. But my TWA is hard and kinky. But if I run my fingers through the middle of my hair (meaning in between the scalp and ends), it's soft. So why are my ends so hard and kinky???

I go to a natural stylist today. I think I will get a twistout or coilout. And I will post more pictures. Oh yeah, I have updated my Fotki to show the BC. The password is softhair. Check it out!! Oh yeah, and thanks to ALL of you ladies for being my support system, for answering my questions when I PMed you, for asking questions that I had as well, and for giving me the courage to start this journey in the first place. :D

:dance7: Congratulations Ms. Twana :yay: Yay! You did it!!!

I haven't looked at the pics yet but I am sure you look awesome. I wouldn't worry about the rough ends, from what I hear they are probably old scab hair that needs to eventually be cut and then it should all be soft like the newer growth:)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! :bouncegre

I may have lost my transitioning buddy:whyme:, but, gained a PM buddy along the way!!!! :user: I'm so happy for you!:rosebud:

congrats on your BC! i'm glad your so happy with it. when i cut all my relaxed ends off it took about 2 weeks for me to fall in love with my hair but once i did it was wonderful. good luck on your natural hair care journey!

Yay!!!!! Congratulations!!!!! I know it looks cute on you. I haven't seen the pics yet, though. But it always helps when you hear compliments at work. What did your husband say about the new do?

Congratulations...welcome to the natural world!

I can understand how you feel...I felt really excited too the first time. Your ends are going to have to get used to being curly now. Also, u are going to have to do a whole new regimine on your hair...totally different than when u were in transistion.

The one thing I can suggest to you is to deep condition your hair the first few weeks with a very moisturizing conditioner and don't use too much protein...your hair needs more moisture now more than ever.

The other thing would be to keep your ends protected right now. I know the excitement of wearing your hair out, but it is going to take some time for your ends to truly get use to the cut. So protection is more important than style...IMO.

I'm sure there are other naturals who will give u so many tips on how to take care of your hair now that its natural...but one thing I can tell u is this..."you will never regret that you did go natural once u get the hang of it...it's one of the best things I have ever done."

Blessings.

Wow! Congratulations, Twana! This is very exciting, and I can't wait to look at the pictures!

The sooner I get rid of it, the better!!! Last night was my first time asking him his opinion. He hadn't said ANYTHING about it before then. Not ONE word. Before I figured he was going with the "If you don't have anything nice to say, do say anything" motto. The first night or two, he barely even looked at me. Which hurt very badly because then I felt unattactive to my husband. Who wants that?? But now he's back to normal. It will just take him a while. I'm being patient with him. :)

Thanks for all of the congrats. Gharp001, thanks for being my transitioning buddy!!! ;)

Okay. Thanks for the tips. I bought I curly wig the day before I BCed, and I thought it was going to go to waste.

Ms. Twana, your hair is so pretty!:D I too have had hubby displeasure about me going natural. When I see threads like yours I get more encouraged to stay natural. Can you please tell me how you did your twists for your twistout? I'm trying to learn how to style my hair other than a wash n go. WTG on your BC.

Only if you can help me perfect my wash n go!!! :lachen: No, I just grabbed hair and did single two-strand twists. I tried to make rows as much as possible as I grabbed hair. I don't remember what I used the first time, but the second time, I used Paul Mitchell foaming stuff.

Congratulations! It looks really good. I think natural hair suits you a lot more :)

BTW - your pic of half natural, half relaxed hair scared me a bit for some reason

I know, the two different textures looks a little freaky doesn't it!!!

Thanks ladies for all the compliments. It's making me feel better!!

Firstly, congrats!:)
Secondly, welcome! :yay:

Thirdly, keep this thread close to your heart in case you experience BC Shock!

Fourthly, make sure you have India.Aire's "I Am Not My Hair" on repeat!

Finally, much success on your new hair life!

Congratulations!!! I'm so excited for you :)

As for the dry ends, I wouldn't worry too much just yet, since you just cut it. Honestly I don't really believe in the whole scab hair thing, I found that for the first few weeks after my chop I had a problem wit dry ends, but once I found the right products and moisture balance for my hair it was all good. Good luck!

Eta: I just checked your album, and your hair is soo cute!

Thanks for your help! I have a very strong curl pattern so as soon as I wet it my hair curls up. I use pantene hydrating curls to curb the frizz. It is this curl pattern that makes relaxing my hair very difficult. MTG has doubled this effect and I can barely part my hair. I guess this is why I have so much trouble doing anything other than a wash n go. People think I have a texturizer, but it's my natural curl pattern.
