Okay, okay, yes I have been here for a whilllleeeeeee, but I never grasped the idea of transitioning, maybe I am a little slow, but what exactly is it about:

Is it totally getting rid of perms?

Just a question, for those that are 4a/b if u are getting rid of perms, how do u handle new growth? How do u get it str8?

I ask, because my hair is growing, but I am noticing that my ends are getting thin, which defeats the purpose of having my hair out, LOL

i get my hair roots straight usually by a comb-iron or when i go to the hairdresser she blow-dries it out straight for me. one suggestion ... putting ur hair out really isnt a good idea if you are transitionning ... it will just dry it out.

I ask this question, because it seems as if as time goes by my thins out, I dont know if it is the perms or what, and I seem to cant get pass 8 weeks, I wnet 12 weeks and lost alot of hair, dont know if it was do to the wet ponytails that cause my edges to fade away, but I am not feeling my right now

hummm.........different texture, and as u stated in another thread it doesnt look good unless I pull it over my should, I feel as if it is not as thick as it can be!

Maybe I am over reacting, but I have had alot of breakage and no trim in 6 months so........

after I get a trim, switch perms, develop a good regime, maybe I wont feel this way. I am sure there are other sthat feel that they have back tracked in the hair care plans, right now I think I am lookin for a total new way out inside of looking at what I am doing.

Anjel,

Are you trying to transition (grow out the relaxer) or just stretch it out? I couldn't exactly tell from your post. Your roots will always be thicker than the ends when transitioning b/c they aren't chemically treated. But either way, you have to try not to manipulate your hair too much and keep the roots moisturized.

I guess I am not really goin to tans. I got a little hype seeing HairLove's hair, but I remembered that not everything works for everyone!

I dont know what to dooooooooooo!

Your ends will appear thinner than the hair by the scalp/roots because of the comparison...you're looking at relaxed hair relative to natural hair, also as the new growth kicks in and starts shrinking, the hair is constricting which adds to the roots looking thinner OR it could be general wear and tear...I looked at Hairlove's album earlier and fooled myself into thinking I was about to transition..noooooooooooo buddy..I'm gonna go for stretching for 4 months and leave it at that!

Anjel and Cheer - if you look closely at my pics, you will see that my relaxed hair is thinner than my natural hair. I hate that! But I know it's partially b/c I did have some breakage so in essence I do have *more* natural hairS than relaxed hairs as well as the fact that the relaxe hair is just thinner hairs.

Good luck to both of you. Don't be fooled though - I have plenty of hair issues underneath the pictures. I choose to show the nicer ones.

AnjelLuvsUBabe, I went four months without a relaxer b/c I found that my edges were thinning. My hair wasn't thinning enough so anyone would notice but, the important thing was that I noticed my hair was thinning.

I just stretched out my relaxer for 4 months, washed & deep conditioned my hair weekly. I only used olive oil as my moisturizer and the hair styles I wore were braid outs or bun. I also found that I could not comb my hair unless it was wet so, I would wash my hair twice a week.

I did not experience any breakage, my ends remained in very good condition however, I normally trim my ends every 2 or 3 months. And I must say my hair has never looked better. My hair is no longer thinning, as a matter of fact it has completely grown back. Also, I switched from no lye to a lye relaxer and when it was time for my retouch I had it professionally done.
