TRANSITIONERS, IF YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT DOING THE BC

Just lemme say.
Someone talked to into cutting my hair (not on LHCF or Fotki).
If you're not sure, don't do it.
I regret cutting mine and that is a decision you can not go back on.
It's your hair and you decide when and what to do with it.
Than goodness I have enough hair to pull it back in a puff.
I love my texture and the fact that it is natural, thick and healthy.
BUT, I HATE the length.
I simply wanted to say that in case you are easily swayed like I am.
I had worked long and hard for my new growth and my hair was at a decent length and now it's all gone, I know it's just hair and it will grow back, but in the meantime I have to live with his damn fro...lol

Anyway, You ladies are doing a great job transitioning, it sure ain't for everyone and I didn't mean to scare you, I just wish someone would have said something to me before I cut it all off...

Happy Hair growing Ladies!!

I applaud you for your courage, and its not as bad as you think. EMBRACE THE NEW YOU!!

I do understand how you feel cause i'd be lost without my pony

I saw your post w/ pics.....Gyrl You are Beautiful!!!

Thanks for the warning, the scissors have been calling me for weeks

I agree. I tell this to all my friends. I was talked into cutting 3 inches in May, but Im ok about it now. I had been transitioning since 06, gradually on my own time. I wasn't ready for a BC and no one was gonna talk me into one. I walk in my shoes. I don't regret it and I'll tell everyone. Dont worry though girl, it'll grow back and youll look back at this moment and be okay with it.

Thanks for the warning, MissNorway, because I sure have been thinking about it a lot as of late.

By the way, your hair looks beautiful! Hang in there. :)

Happy Hair growing Ladies!!

Dude, I just went to your fotki and your hair looks really nice. It makes me want to BC, (if I hadn't already cut my relaxed ends off). I'm serious. I know you're not used to the length, but MissNorway, I'm not even trying to yank your chain or just make you feel better (but I hope I do, just letting you know my comments aren't empty), but your BC looks really nice. When you were upset, I expected something worse, but that puff was too cute. Get some big earrings, some shimmery eyeshadow, and rock the hell out of those curlies.

Miss Norway. I BC my hair about 2 weeks. I am still trying to get use to it. However, I love my texture. I keep mine in a small ponytail. Mine is about the same length as yours and I have not built up the nerves to wear an afro yet. I am still trying to get use to it. Stay encouraged. Like you said, our hair is going to grow back longer, fuller and stronger. I agree, you are beautiful. Stay confident about who you are

Miss Norway, thanks for the post! I am currently transitioning and I need feedback like this. I am always riding the fence of whether to BC or not. To be honest, I want to keep my length.

Great post! People need to realize that BCs at a later date are always an option. Many years ago when I "transitioned"... :look: I'd get a inch or two cut every month or so. Then one day I had my hair cut into a bob to rid myself of the last few inches of relaxed hair.

Thanks for the post! I haven't relaxed in about 2+ years, and I'm still holding on to my relaxed ends. I'm always hearing comments cutting it off, but I guess I'm just not ready. As much as I know I'll love being 100% natural, I don't want to give up my length yet. I know you're regretting chopping early, but look at it this way...you truly do look great with your natural hair!

I totally agree with you Ms Norway! I BC'd after transitioning for a year. I immediately regretted it. The drastic change in length took A LOT of getting use to. A year seems a long time to transition--but it really doesn't yield that much natural hair. I say, if you can stand it, try to transition 18-24 months. That way, there is plenty of hair to work with.

I cut my hair when I felt I was ready emotionally. Although I'm not really sure if I really was ready, but I'm glad I cut it when I did. Nobody should ever give into pressure when it comes to the BC.

ITA! This led to me relaxing after my first two BCs. This time around I was completely ready emotionally and, for me, I know there is no turning back. I was really emotionally prepared to deal with the length change and people's negative remarks. :yep:

This is the way I did it. My hair stayed at shoulder length during my entire transition because I knew that if I let it grow longer I would NEVER BC. I was ecstatic with my hair after I chopped but I do agree with the other ladies. I BC'd when I was ready and I think everyone else should do the same. If I had done it sooner maybe I would feel the same way as the OP. It is quite a dramatic change (Looove it though) so just take your time with your decision. HHG Transitioners!!

OP, your hair grows super fast!! All that in 1 year???? I'm so jealous:yep:

Thanks for this post.

BC is a big decision to make and it wise that everyone does it in their own time instead of feeling pressured.

Your hair is beautiful BTW.

I thought you looked really cute with your cut! The pic with the pink eye shadow was CUTE.

I think when we transition our hair we forget to transition the make-up, accessories, outfits etc..... "SouthernTease" mentions rocking fly boots with curly hair etc.....Change it UP:grin:

Did you have the proper products to make your curls POP with once you B/C'd? This might be a thought...

ANYWAY, who am I? I still think you look cute with your new Hair

Last time I grew my hair out natural, I did the BC and HATED THE LENGTH as well. I felt like I looked like Ms. Potato head and so I am committed this time around to not cut until at least I am 18 months into my transition. I will try to go longer if I can as I am addicted to my length right now......

THANKS for posting and confirming my decision to go with what I want....

But, your hair is beautiful....

I agree that folks should wait until they're ready. I was ready after one year and don't regret my BC. Having said that, it still took my a couple of months to feel "really" comfortable with 100% natural hair.

Later, I could look back and appreciate how cute my hair was, and how easy it was to detangle, but initially, it did take getting used to, and again, I wanted to BC when I did--no pressure from anyone at all.

I finally made the final decision to transition. I know with the help of you ladies, I can learn from mistakes and keep my hair as healthy as possible and my sanity! My sis did it with the BC about 4months in and the thing she says is if I knew how to take care of my hair at the time I would have waited longer. Now she likes her hair, but she has those what ifs- like what if I had waited, where would my hair be, I would have more options of ways to do my hair, etc. I am going to go as long as possible cutting off an inch here or there.

But OP, please know you really do look beautiful with the new cut, but it is a matter of being comfortable in your own skin. I can't wait to see your progress!

I hate short hair on myself, but that was just part of the problem. I didn't know little things like not being able to put it in a ponytail for a month, not knowing what products to use, having my hair plastered to my head every morning  I had no idea who the chick looking at me in the mirror was. But I got over it and moved on eventually. Its not easy! I give kudos to anybody that just chops off all their hair with 1 inch of growth.

OP, the good news is your hair will probably grow like a weed. Mine did after I did the BC. The months go by quick and before you know it your hair will be long again. :yep:

First, I want to say that MissNorway, you look great with your new cut!!
But I do know how you feel. I was natural for several years and I BC'ed after just 5 months. No one talked me into it, I was just itching to see my hair all natural. It was shock, shrinkage is no joke! But you will eventually get used to it and it will grow back!! Give it some time.

I think Nichi is right on point. I think your hair looks great. I've never thought I would BC until I had a massive amount of NG which is a long ways from now. However, I think your hair looks really good. I didn't see the puff but I can just imagine how cute it must look.

I keep thinking of the freedom of going natural. At least, that's what going natural makes me think of: FREEDOM. In fact, I feel a little bit of freedom now because I'm not in some rush to get my hair relaxed to hide away the new growth. Hats off to you. Don't worry. It looks great and hair will always grow. I've never met anyone whose hair just absolutely did not grow.

Then you should keep it till your ready.
It's been a week and I am still trying to get used to this short hair.
I say wait until you are absolutely positive.

HHG

first i gotta say i actually love your fro....brings back memories...
secondly, get some mega tek, lol!

I can attest to this as well. Transitioning was hard, but trying to always be confident with a twa is harder. My relaxed & natural hair are like night and day, so there was nothing I could use for both textures so it drove me absolutely crazy. :wallbash: I just wish I had held on for at least a few more months though. And when your relaxed hair is weighing down your new growth? Wow what an illusion! I had no clue my hair would shrink to my freakin head like it does. It coils & coils & coils upon itself. I don't think I'll ever see length without stretching... :perplexed But then again, I only have 2 inches of hair. I have to tell myself daily it's just hair and it will grow back.

Didn't stop me from purchasing a growth aid though. :look:

I can totally relate to this thread. I did a bc in May (this was my second one) and I totally hated the length. So I texlaxed and I do not like the condition of my hair :nono::perplexed. So I am now transitioning back to natural, I am truly annoyed.:spinning:

Thank you for this thread Miss Norway. I'm 8 months post and everyone is telling me to cut it and how fly I will look. Part of me wants to enjoy my natural hair in stages but and I also feel like I have the style options to rollerset, bun and braidout. I wont have those options with a BC. I'd like to make it 18 months before I cut.

By the way Miss Norway, I love your puff in your fotki. Your curls are pretty.
