Lynnie, Lynnie, Lynnie!! Your hair is absolutely awe-inspiring. It's so thick and luscious and beautiful. It's just ... just ... DANG WOMAN!!!

I'll bet you cash money that you've just inspired a whole bunch of people to transition right now ... even the lurkers. :yep:

*picks up jaw off of ground*

you're hair is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this WL in abt 4 years??? (my goal!)

You have beautiful hair! So thick and lush :)! Thank you for sharing your amazing and inspiring progress :)!

LynnieB, you've been inspiring me ever since I joined the board. Your hair is just beautifullll...

LynnieB, I do need your help. My mother has quarter sized bald spots in her head. I noticed that back in the day, you suffered from alopecia, but you were able to overcome it. Her doctor thinks it seborrheic dermatitis and requested she use Men's Rogaine. I think she can do this without the Rogaine. What did you use?

I transitioned for 15 months. Big chopped Memorial Day weekend (5/07) because I'd reached a point in my transition when I just could not stand dealing with 2 textures anymore. I had about 6 inches of hair at the time and even with that length, I was in shock. It was the shortest my hair had ever been in my life.

After the first 6 months or so I felt confident enough to rock what I had but still missed my length.

I also got a ton of inspiration from the ladies who've been natural long before me and shared what they knew.

Yall can do this!!

2006 - Lawd hammercy! Thick natural hair vs. thin "tex" laxed hair. Thought I was doing good but pictures don't lie, do they? :nono:

Well you inspired me :yep:.

It's funny that you referred to your texlaxed hair as thin because even with the chemical it was still thick...but lawd your natural hair is crazy thick. I love it!

Agreed. I was scrolling down wondering what was wrong with the texlaxed hair. That looked really nice to me too.:yep:

Your natural hair is GORGEOUS!

Thanks again sweet ladies. I know that every one here will reach their goals, whatever they may be! :rosebud:

LynnieB,

LynnieB, I do need your help. My mother has quarter sized bald spots in her head. I noticed that back in the day, you suffered from alopecia, but you were able to overcome it. Her doctor thinks it seborrheic dermatitis and requested she use Men's Rogaine. I think she can do this without the Rogaine. What did you use?

Well, I never had an official diagnosis other than alopecia areata. I battle with seborrheic derm. and just maybe that left me predisposed to the AA. I just don't know and neither did my derm.

It's all gone now but every once in a while I'll get that itchy sensation in the same AA spot that sends me running for a mirror with a quickness.

He prescribed 2 prednisone meds. One an ointment and when that didn't work he prescribed a foam. The foam is called Olux and it was while using the Olux that Vellus hairs started coming back in. Could have been the Olux, EOs or the AA just ran its course.

I brought up Rogaine and Minoxidil to him and he said no. Give the AA some time to sort itself out first, He said I would probably have to use the Rogaine or Minoxidil permanently or the hair you grew would probably fall out once I stopped using it.

I also asked him about using EOs and he said no problem trying them. Not sure if the EOs actually helped or not.

The bald patch had horrible itching, burning and pinpricky sensations and I used witch hazel and sometimes Cortizone-10 to help calm that down. The prednisone really helped put a stop to that too.

HTH?

I hope your mom's condition improves on its own. Dealing with any kind of alopecia is devastating and depressing as heck.
