Too much new growth much too soon...

...this has really been bugging me. For the past several months it seems my hair has been sprouting new growth way before it should, in some cases, just 3 weeks after a fresh relaxer. I don't know why though. I really haven't changed my routine, heck I never had much of one to begin with. Just last week (6 weeks into my relaxer) I went to the salon and I had to ask my stylist for flat twists because absolutely NO other style would work with the new growth that was on top of my head. Anyone have a problem similar to this? I don't really think my hair is growing any faster than usual (but then again..?).

Girl, for the average LHCF member, that would be a wonderful thing.:) Sorry I don't have any suggestions to stop your hair from growing!!!

 Sorry... I didn't really consider this a good thing... where's my head?

What I'm really complaining about I guess, is that it's harder for me to manage my hair now that it gets so thick so soon. I can never get that nice, smooth look. Just fuzzies everywhere.

The early new growth does mean your hair is growing at a faster rate. If you can't remember any new changes in your hair care routine then perhaps your diet is now more protein rich or you have eliminated junk food. External factors such as decrease stress level and family/career sucess has help with your body's ability to focus on growth rather than fight/flight response, which is typical when you are is a stress situation.

Now I agree with most members here new growth is good. Be happy for your growth and the fact the you are a member of LHCF. I've seen some great post on conditioners, conditioner washes and hair setting techniques. All of which other members have stated has help tame new growth and extend the time in between relaxers. Start a new thread on what to do with new growth that will not be tamed. :)

I used to get a lil miffed about it especially after touch up time. I see it all as a blessing. I try to think of ppl that have alopecia or lose their hair to cancer and realise my 'problems' just aren't problems at all.

You made some good points... I have been including more protein in my diet. That may be a factor. Thanks. :)

Try wearing styles where you don't have to worry about about a "nice smooth look" like a braidout. Congrats on the new growth though. It sounds great to me. How did you achieve it so quickly?

I can relate with you. I think I know the reason why it's happening to me: because I condition my hair over night covering my hair with a shower cap and bonnet. Do you know how moist my hair and scalp is in the morning? extremely moist! even if I forget to add conditioner! I think I got this tip from den1, but it's working .

I don't know, I really don't. :ohwell: I exercise regulary but then again I've been doing that for years. But this is a first for me- the new growth spurt. I wonder if it has anything to do with the weather. I always thought that hair grew faster in the summer though.

Isn't three weeks the standard time to see the start of new growth?

I mean many people relax at Week 6 -- so that's halfway there ...

I am having this SAME issue and I just did my relaxer 2 days ago... Today I keep getting those crawling sensations on my scalp and "zings" that I get when my hair is growing. I am thinking that maybe I am doing too much in my regimen. I know most people will think it is a good thing, but it's not if you need another relaxer every 6 weeks... My hair gets SEVERELY tangled with knots at the ends and matted roots - no matter how much slip my products have... and it starts breaking when I get too much new growth...

Doesn't sound like a "problem" at all to me. :look:
