To chop or not to chop

Jesus, I Trust In You!
Ok, I started a new job, have to deal with constant on the job training, did 2 moveS (relocation in the space of 2 months) and couldn't spare time for my hair. I put the

in sewed in extensions which I washed every 2 weeks (on the average). I however kept the scalp clean with seabrease. I took out the extensions, washed the cornrows (I thought this would make it easier to get rid of suspected buildup) and slapped a wig on for a week because I had a engagements that wouldn't allow me invest time on my hair.
Fast forward to last night (5 days later), I take out the cornrows and my hair is matted like I have natural dreds

, so I proceed to apply honey and cholesterol on the knots. It's working and I'm able to pry my hair loose but at the rate I'm going I'm not going to be able to accomplish anything this weekend (my help is needed in essex, md for a move, work related IT tutorials, and the usual housekeeping that is reserved for the weekends

Does anybody know what I did wrong and what I can do to correct this? I don't want to lose my length but if push comes to shove, I gotta let the hair go because I have already wasted so many hours already on it and can't afford to squander anymore time.

I wish that I could give you a remedy, but I've never had extensions

I just wanted to give you a hug, because I'm in the IT field, I know the pressure.

I'm sure that one of the ladies here will be able to help you out

Thanks webby.
I'm about hitting the shower. Hopefully the stream of running water will help the detangling, if it doesn't I guess, I'll have 4 months worth of natural hair and proceed on my natural hair journey. No better time like the present but I'll just have to invest in 2 or three wigs because I don't see myself rocking the twa look

Myhairsos, I just thought of something, but don't know if it will work. My hair tangles so much that I thought I was going to have to cut it too. I bought an inexpensive (relatively inexpensive) jug of cream rinse from Sally's. They have different rinses that come in gallon jugs and they only run around $7 or $8 dollars.

I literally pour the stuff on my hair and gently comb through with a wide-tooth seamless comb. In fact, I have not been roller setting my hair lately, just air drying natural and my hair was super tangled yesterday. I had to use the cream rinse B4 I could even wash.

If I were you, I'd trim rather than chop. I did a chop job a few years ago and I have barely recovered. Not because my hair doesn't grow, but because I get so frustrated with the in between stages.

I did the chop about an hour ago.
Thanks all the same webby. I had to dash out to the atm, so I slapped on my wig. I feel relieved rather than sad to see the length go but then again, it might be delayed reaction. I had always wanted to transition but wanted to see how long my hair could grow before beginning. Man proposes but God disposes

Thanks again for all the support, it was so very much welcomed and appreciated. I'm logging off to hit some tutorial.
Say, you did say that you're in the IT field. What's your specialty? I attend a week long training on intermediate Java and much of the J2EE stuff (JDBC-ODBC, server-side programming, servlets, JSP et al) and need a lot of practice to master the stuff.
