Tithes vs offering

The tithe is the ten percent of your earnings/income. The offering is over that. There are some that calculate the 10% from the gross. There are those that calculate 10% from the net. If you calculate from the gross, hopefully you will not owe the feds. Any others with comments on this topic?

felic1... you gave an excellent answer. :yep:

Regarding federal taxes, it depends upon the grand total of one's annual contributions. For many, the federal standard deduction is higher than one's contributions to be counted as a tax advantage. If one's tithe is higher than the standard deduction than it becomes an advantage...tax wise.

However the tithe is always an advantage God wise. He will bless you far above the government every single time. :yep:

Tithes are used to carry on the work of the church and contribute to the upkeep of the church.

Offerings pooled and used to pay the ministers their stipend.

At least that is how I understand it. On the envelope for the tithes, we have to indicate how we want our money to be divided across the different ministries and of course infrastructure work. Our priest is provided housing, transport etc. and a fixed stipend.
