Has anyone else used this? What was your experience with it and did you like it?

I just experimented with this EO today. Ohhhhh, the smell is enough to make me :barf: ! I didn't even add that much to my base oil. Now, my head smells like Italian Food . What I CAN say is that my scalp does feel better after using it. I don't even mind the smell of WGO, but this

HHG,

I have never used thyme oil, but here is a little more information on it.

Thyme has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti-parasitic, antiseptic, antiviral, cardio-tonic, neuro-tonic, and utero-tonic properties.

Thyme Oil Caution: May irritate skin, increases blood pressure, avoid during pregnancy, never take internally. Can irritate mucous membranes, cause dermal irritation and may cause sensitization in some individuals. Use in moderation, in low dilution only.

Isis: I saw the recipe you're talking about. After looking at it, I decided to give Thyme a try. It's just the smell that I can not get past (at the moment).

Kaddy: Thanks for posting that information.

angellazette: Do you mind the smell of the Thyme oil?

Ballet Bun, does the smell get better when mixed with the other essential oils? Or does it just stink by itself?

I only have it mixed in with Rosemary Oil. I don't have the other oils. I only used about 10 drops of thyme in for ounces of oil. I don't smell it in my hair that much today, so that's good.

Isis, in my recipe (the same one your mentioned) I use only two drops of thyme in addition to 2 drops of cedarwood, 3 of rosemary, 3 of lavendar...and then 1/4 tsp jojoba and 4 tsp grapeseed...and I can STILL smell the thyme. But I imagine it'd be a lot stronger without the other essential oils. :look: So Ballet_bun, ten drops must be...:p

I fool around with it a little more, before tossing it out then! It's amazing Nonie that you can still smell with only a couple of drops ... potent

Ballet_bun, you better not toss it or...or... :whip: Just pack it in your li'l bag when you next make your trip "home" (to the US) and donate it to "charity" (I will be glad to make the donation for you if you mail it to me :eyebrows2 ).
Seriously...how about trying some Monoi Oils as carriers? Thyme EO beneficial to your hair and scalp so how about disguising it well with a scented oil and thus still reap its benefits without having to endure the smell. Might not be so bad if you go easy on it. Personally, I've learned to live with the smell, plus it might just have the bonus of keeping nosy parkers out of my personal space. ;)

Oh Lawd, I just ordered some thyme too. Well, it should be good for cooking too, like rosemary...right?

Yes, please don't toss it Ballet Bun! It's a natural antibiotic like lavender, tea tree oil, and rosemary, great for first aid. You probably already know that.

Nonie, that's a great suggestion, the Monoi oil. I'm going to add my ylang ylang to the mix and that is one of the main oils in Monoi oil that gives it that wonderful smell.

Isis ... Nonie

OKay, ok, ok .... geez. I will not toss it  . I forgot that I can use it for other things too, but I will keep experimenting.

Isis ... when you get your thyme oil, let us know how you like it. Let us know how your nose likes it ...

 Sounds like all of you so far can't stand the smell. I sniffed some loose thyme herbs today at the health store, it smelled ok. I've used it for cooking many times. The oil must be stronger. I'll brace myself when it arrives.

Whew! Ok, the smell is pretty... powerful. My order from iherb.com on 2/7 came today at 2/9! Free shipping too! Thyme isn't a stinky smell though, more of a strong medicine-like smell like the combination of sulfur-8 and gasoline.
I'll be making my potion tonight or tomorrow.

@Isis...don't cook with that thyme eo or you will end up in the hospital!

mines stinks too (same recipe), so I only use it at night on my edges. By morning, the smell is ok. I don't know how my hubby puts up with me. Between thyme oil on my hair and tea tree eo on my blemishes, I smell like pine sol spaghetti!

All in the name of beautiful, healthy hair, right!

I won't cook with the thyme oil DelightfulFlame. I certainly don't want to get sick and I don't want my food smelling like this either!! I'll stick to cooking with the thyme herbs, much milder in comparison!
