Traycee I am sure she was talking about the person on the youtube video. I could be wrong but the person doing the youtube said she is a member of hairlista too.

Her growth and condition (texture and thickness) progress is amazing for 10 months. Thanks for posting!

she has thoroughly inspired me to get my hair right. Especially since she said she dyed her hair alot. A guilty pleasure of mine. hmph

She has nice shine and great progress! I went ahead and subscribed to her channel. Why did I give my sis the Cantu Shea Butter leave-in I had?! It worked okay at the time, but now I want to re-try since I'm transitioning. I hate waste, and now I will have to go buy some more! I like her vids, she said she dyes her hair a lot. I do too, but I use Bigen, which seems to thicken my hair and make it stronger. I wonder if she uses dye with ammonia in it...that would damage hair over time.

She had great progress :yep: Yes, she's short, but her hair is long and it looks awesome!

Short chicks can't catch a break around here. :ohwell: I'll be reminded not to post pics when I reach my ultimate goal length, since I'm on the short side and it may not be as impressive by lhcf standards. :look:

:yep: It keeps us realistic and helps us estimate. It does not make sense for a LHCFer (particularly a newbie) of, say, 6'2 kicking herself because she is not achieving the same goals as someone half her height.

At the same time, that person who IS 6'2 with the same progress? . . . I am at her feet listening and following intently . . . . because not only was her progress impressive but it was totally out of the norm. If she can reach her goals in that short of time, heck I could wrap my body in my hair with the same progress.

Soooooo . . . . not bashing by any means. I would be THRILLED to have her length and I don't. I now know I can reach MBL though in about 1.5 years if I really work at. For me, that is inspiration. :yep:

I guess I understand what you are saying (although you weren't talking to me) :look:... However, an inch is an inch is an inch! There is an average rate that hair grows, some are on the higher end of the average, some on the lower end. Let's just say this short girl is mid range, BUT she found a way to keep every cm of her growth... whether tall or short, it's impressive to have done that. The dedication, etc.

I agree that length shows differently on someone my height (5'1.5) vs. someone 6'2; clearly if it only takes 10 inches of hair for me to get to BSL and 15 inches for a taller person, it will take the taller person longer (depending on growth and retention rate). But dang, growth is growth... To me it seems really depressing as a short person to know that the support on a long hair board will be dictated based on your height... like a back handed compliment: "great growth, but you're short, so we expect that". It surely makes me think twice about ever posting my goal hair pics. :(

Again, I get what you're saying, but growth is growth. And if you're 6'2 and keeping an inch a month, I wanna know. And I'd hope that if someone were 5'10 and I was getting & retaining 3/4" a month they'd be able to learn something from me.

Why would it make you think twice? I don't think anyone would not acknowledge growth. That's what we are all here for.

It's amazing to retain 6 inches, It would be more amazing if you were 6'2 and went from APL to waist length in a year.

What's the big deal?:ohwell:

Actually it doesn't really make me think twice, it makes me not want to post my results for fear that it would be analyzed to death because I'm below average height. Yep, that's what we're here for, so why break it down like "oh, she's short... no wonder".

I'm not talking about these made up goals we list like APL, MBL, etc... the point is simply the inches, the growth, the progress. So what if I can get to APL quicker than a chick who's taller than me?!?! So what if she has more hair than me once she makes it to the length. If it's not a big deal, then why even mention it?

That was my point. But that's my opinion. Nothing major and my opinion is not just based on this thread.

ETA: I guess I'm saying a compliment stands alone without the "but" at the end and that's how I percieve some of the responses when a short girl reaches XYZ goal... instead of "wow, you kept 5 inches in 4 months...period". I guess I'm wishing for a perfect world.

Umm, ok. So do you think it would make a difference if people posted inches instead of goal lengths?

It doesn't matter much to me and it's not that serious. I don't analyze how tall or whatever when I see great hair. On other long hair sites they DO list inches. And their goals far exceed the goals we aim for here. I noticed on one site they list their current length in inches and their goal lengths.

It's really not that serious and body location goals are fine, but I don't think anyone's growth should be dismissed.

I agree, but we all love to see people make their goals here. I haven't seen anyone's growth be dismissed.

Wow damn, some of y'all short ladies are lucky. Im 5'8" and I feel like Im hardly going anywhere. She has beautiful hair!

I'm just saying I think a compliment goes best without a "but" at the end. That's all I was trying to say.

I had this convo with my bff recently after I saw a thread on another board re: the height thing and it all boils down to one question: Why do we have to compare our growth with someone else's growth? :perplexed

I can totally understand that some taller folks feel like there's a longer distance between the milestones for them than for shorter girls (though, in actuality, the distances on most women are pretty much the same) but the issue lies when someone's height is factored in to whether they've made good progress. It doesn't matter (to me at least) if you and I are both APL but your APL is technically "longer" than mine in inches... all that matters to me, honestly, is that I'M APL! And kudos to you if your APL is longer! The end! ::shrugs:: I guess I just don't care that much about the length of someone's hair compared to mine because in my little world, hair growth is not a competition.

It's just a shame that someone who has made undeniable progress is now subject to being belittled (even if it's only in the slightest) because she's short. (don't deny it because if that wasn't the case this thread wouldn't have gone there...) :ohwell:

How in the world did you interpret what I said to mean the bold? That is so NOT what I said.:lachen: Nor did I dismiss her progress. Retention is retention - period. I would say that you do not get what I am saying if this is your interpretation, because you are incredibly off base :nono:.

My question regarding her height puts MY goals against MY timeline in perspective. My timeline is based on simple calculations that include my height, rate of growth, and time to achieve my goals regarding the length of my hair when compared to the height of my body. And yes, I do anyalyse, because I am an analyst by nature, education, and career. It is the way I look at everything.:lachen:

I really think that if you, or anyone for that matter, posts your pics on this board, you will get NOTHING but encouragement :yep:. People will ask you about your height, regimen, hair type/grade/etc., diet, and so forth. The questions posted here are simply the same questions she would be asked if she had posted her own pics. Ironically enough, the fact that provided the answers in her video are proof enough that she knew we (and other die-hard hair lovers) were going to dirive her crazy on YT asking the questions. :lachen: :lachen:

:lachen:Because we are human and that is what we do. Kind of like comparing pregnancies, length of time in braces, fingernails, etc. We all want examples that our goals can be achieved. Using height/time when talking about hair growth is the same as someone using time against the size of your belly when you are pregnant. :yep: It really is not meant to offend. Even if people do get sick of the question.

It is really not that deep.

Awesome that she was able to reach her goals in a very short time. That is always nice to see.

However, I like to know the starting point and height of the person also, just to keep it in perspective. You really can't tell HOW impressive it is unless you think in terms of the number of inches over X period of time. You can't really tell from pics how many inches she grew over the 10 months. Height can give you a ballpark estimate. Her growth rate could be the normal 1/2 inch a month.

I'm in agreement... very well stated... thank you!!!

I didn't say that's what YOU SAID.... I still stand behind my very last post... a compliment stands better without a "but".

And if your goal and time line are based on inches... an inch is an inch is an inch... no matter how tall or short you are. Again, these body point milestones MAY differ based on height (I don't dispute that), but growth is growth. As as on person posted, one person's progress is not competition with another person. I'm not arguing the facts about height and APL on a tall vs. APL on a short; obviously I know the difference as I've always been short.

I didn't miss your point or anyone else. I still point out that height has nothing (absolutely nothing) to do with the OP showing this girls beautiful hair and her great growth in 10 months. Regardless of where her hair falls on her short body... she held on to 5 inches in 10 months. PERIOD. No need to compare to anyone else. But again, this is my mentality.

ETA: And someone (not you) did allude to the fact that it is less impressive when you find out the person is shorter. It really ain't that deep. I just gave MY view from the bottom looking up :look:
