I honestly never knew. It's amazing to find out u have been doing something wrong for so long, but it felt so right.

Lol this is so funny. Maybe it holds in place better this way.

I'm not sure if I can even put them in the other way with the straight side being longer. This makes no sense lol. I hate bobby pins.

thats dumb, i dont believe it and wont be changing lol.
im natural so its easy for stuff to get caught and lost in my hair. aint no way im sticking no bobbi pin in my hair like that. id never be able to get it out:nono:
i like straight side down and im gonna make sure thats the way my children and their children and their children do it.

Also that part will rip through your hair (or catch on it). I am not losing strands over bobby pins. THey can stay in the wrong way if I use 'em.

I have these large twists in my hair now, but once they come out, I'm going to test and see which one is better for me. Who knows, maybe it'll work better depending on what I'm trying to do, since the blog talks about straight vs curly hair. The thing is i have found that when I do where my hair straight and still bobby pins in my hair it always seems to slide and I feel like I'm constantly readjusting it. But if I put it wavy side down, I want have to do that.

What else are you ladies holding out on us? Out with it!

and to the ones that say when they see them they are smooth, thats because some pins are smooth on BOTH sides.
Yeah as my hair grows I realize I have to get the extra long ones and they are smooth on both sides (at least the ones I get). That way they don't catch on the hair. I'm usually angry if they run out because I'd rather avoid the ripply ones if I can.

That's just what the man wants you to think. First they take your bobby pin method, then they take your freedom. Human instinct tells us that it's right ergonomically. Don't succumb to the man. Fight the power!

I had to re- check. I've been putting them in crinkly side down/ flat side up all along.

whew. I think???

I took all my bobby pins out last night and put them in this way and it is much better. The pins are no longer painful and aren't tugging at my scalp. I still think this is the incorrect way although the hold is much easier and it feels much better.

I'm #teamwavysideup, but this morning i put them in flat side up and have to admit that the hold feels pretty darn secure and they feel quite comfortable today (none of the pulling that I get sometimes).

Hmmmm. I'll have to experiment and try this a few more days before I declare this my new method, but yeah....who knew.

Oh, and I did call my mom and inform her that she did not give me proper home training in bobby pin usage!

and thanks cocosweet for posting that article. It makes me feel better about whatever method I go with in the future. :spinning:

This thread is ridiculous and so are the responses. I have been wearing my pins wavy side down all this time. I thought everyone knew this. Isn't this a hair board?

That may have been the way the inventor intended it to be used but the end users dictated the best way it should be used which is why most manufacturers put their designs on the bumpy side. So at the end of the day we the "people" decided on how it should be used.

I personally bend mine a bit like in the image below. My scalp is not straight so bending them makes it easier for them to lay properly on my head.

Oh wow! I didn't know that either about the placement of bobby pins! I think that's why I've had trouble with them for so long when taking them out and tugging at my hair. I would always put in those bobby pins with the straight flat side down on the scalp. Next time, I'm going to try placing these bobby pins with the straight flat side up.

Oh well. I wear the longer bobby pins and those are flat on both sides. But you learn something new every day.

This morning i put the pins in with ridged side down and the grip was waaay better.
However i'm not convinced they're designed to be used that way because the long part of the grip was on top, meaning it was awkward to open.

Shut the front door! I never knew this either. Well I do know this............millions of women are wearing bobby pins the wrong way!

hannan,

For clarification purposes, does that look mean "I can't believe you chicks didn't know that" type of look or "I can't believe I've gone my whole life not knowing that" type of look or is it "I didn't know and I'on care, i'm still going to use it flat side up" type of look. :lachen:

kandiekj100 I really couldn't describe what I was feeling so that gif made sense. Tbh, I really don't even know. :lachen:

ETA: When I used pins...

I always wore them flat side up because it looks better without having the tip sticking up and ruining my look. I won't act like I just knew I was doing it right -- but then again, I just really didn't stop to think if the pins had a right and a wrong way, so to speak.

I don't use them any longer because removal always snagged my hair regardless if I used them wavy or flat side up.

WTH? Ok kandiekj100 Ive gone nearly 30 yrs not knowing it was wavy side down! bunnie82 that was my logic as well...flat, smooth side down. If you wear them wavy side down, wont the upward pointing tip poke or dig into the scalp? Think I'll still wear em wavy side up for that reason. But I mostly use Good Day Hair Pins anyway. :shrugs:
