Thinking about doing the BC

Tricking the president
i took out my braids and it was a mess. I lost soooooo much hair and it's broken off and nasty. Basicall my hair looks to horrid to even describe. If i had a pair of scissors with me yesterday during my wash i would've cut it all off to the new growth, i was that disgusted by my hair. So I've decided that I do not want to deal with it. So i'm going home to NYC in a few days. I've decided that I'm definitely not going to relax for at least a year. My question is do you all think i should do a BC (i have about.5 inches of new growth) or should i just do cornrows. If my hair can't handle braids., does this mean that I can't do cornrows? HELP!!

If you're going natural and you think that the previous braids contributed to the state of your hair, I'd just do the BC. A .5 inch is long enough for you to do comb coils and the wash and go easily. :)

I am sorry to hear about your hair woes. I agree with Ms_K to go ahead with the BC. I know that braids are not my friend as I always experience breakage when I get them. Also, if you don't want to just have your hair out, get the braids if they aren't damaging to your hair.

See, this is what I'm afraid if happening of I get braids. I'm gonna stick with my bun challenge as I transition. :)

I had to do the BC after braids, also. I know exactly how you feel. The only difference was, I relaxed first and after my wash, my stylist was on hand with a pair of scissors. I wanted her to scalp me, but she left a little on. I was sad, but it did feel nice to have a head full of healthy hair.

I would say this...I think your hair can handle cornrows. I think the problem with braids is the hair. I wouldn't get very many cornrows and obviously, keep it extremely moisturized, but I think it's worth a try. Do it a few times for two or three months, and then, if you don't see any progress, go ahead and chop. You will have more length by then and it should be healthy, so no harm, no foul, if you decide to chop later rather than sooner. I would give the rest of your hair a chance first, though--baby it and see how it does. Good luck :) .

I'm co-signing with Dreems.

I have done a BC and wanted to kick myself afterwards, because I forgot how much work short hair can be. I wasn't prepared for the amount of time that I would have to dedicate to my new do.

If you are still getting breaking, like Dreem said, then do a big chop.

thanks ms. k, kaddy, poohbear, dreems, and webby. i think i'll do the cornrows for a few months and see how that works out. if the same thing happens, i'm definitely BCing and weaving it up. if my hair thrives, i'll just keep growing my hair out and braiding for a while.
