Think I may stretch till April

I've been looking at my new growth recently because I was planning on getting a relaxer either this week or next, and I noticed that (at least in my middle part at the top of my head) although I have about an inch of new growh, there isn't much of a demarcation. I can tell where its nappy and where it is relaxed, but I can also feel with my fingers where there is still some waves, but it dosen't look that nappy.

I'm no hair expert, and the lady that does my hair has done a pretty good job thus far of not overlapping, but I'm wondering if it is worth it to go in and get my hair relaxed when I can still manage it.

So my big stretch would be 24 weeks. I don't know if I can do it. And I'm wondering if I would get any damage from stretching for that long.

The first time I stretched for six months, I retained a decent amount of three inches. The stylist even said that my ends were in good shape and needed only a dusting. I think its how you take care of your hair. I am presently four months post relaxer and really don't know when I am going to relax. I am just keeping my hair in braids under instant weave for 4 weeks, deep conditioning/blowout, and then repeating the process after a week. The monthly blowout is definitely helping me.

I'm even hoping to grow out more than just the expected 2 inches (or 3 I don't know) and see some results when I start using MTG.

My hair grows about 1/2 inch month, so three inches. You will do fine just be persistent. If you decide to stretch until April then maybe I will be your stretch buddy. Good luck dear!

I can be your hair buddy too. There was the Christmas Stretch Club, but that is over. I will not be getting a relaxer in April (or anytime for that matter) because I am transitioning. But for me, I like to set my goals in little chops. I told myself I can get to December 2005 and I did! Now, April 2006 ....then August 2006 then maybe big chop?

I was thinking the same thing about my hair too! I have an appointment this Thursday for a touch-up, but the new growth is managable and I'm 9 weeks post. I was planning on getting 2-strand twists in January and wearing them for 2 months. That would put me at 5 months post.

Maybe I can just get a blowout and then get the twist after the new year?

Thank you all for your responses. I would love to have some stretch buddies, I need a support system.

I came from the old school that said you need to get a relaxer every 6-8 weeks. I don't believe taht anymore because I've seen some transitioning folk who have ice looking hair.

My biggest hrdle that I see happening so far is getting through the holidays and my trip to England with my mom and Aunt. I love them, but they are aboutthe biggest nitpickers inthe world. They think that If you're going to have a relaxer, it needs to be bone straight and relaxed at the first sign of thickness from new growth. :smirk:

That's a really good idea to break the transition up! I'm also transitioning, so I'm in!

I'm stretching my relaxer too. I got my last on 10/7/05. I'm trying to stretch to the end of Feb 06. I'm also on my own personal bun challenge. This is how I plan to style during my stretch. Buns and braidouts. Frequent co washes and little to no combing is how I got through the last time I stretched longer than 12 weeks.

Any updates?!?!?

As far as my new growth is concerned, it just sprouted out of nowhere:lol: ! I'm about to get my hair in flat twists and then cornrows until April...

My hair is shedding...I really think it's breaking off because I go to the dominicans and they use the ultra hot blowdryers to make my hair straight...I'm in denial :look:

Okay...I'm so tempted to get my touch up...:ohwell:

...but I will hold out for another month :perplexed I'mma get my hair braided next week.

I'm gonna hop on this challenge. I am currently 8.5 weeks post. Last touch up was 12/26/05. I was planning on stretching to 8, then I changed it to 10 because I breezed to 8! Now I think I can go to April 1 which would be 13.5 weeks! Never gone past 8 before so wish me luck!
