So, so true...I can't state that enough. We have so many assumptions about our own hair, as well as that of other groups.

In my country, people say to me, "I love your hair, even if it is a weave". They even flat out ask if it's my hair (when I'm relaxed). I do find the questions offensive, but I guess that's life.

This is true. There is nothing in the rules against it. But so often people assume that because you are a Black woman with long hair that it can't be yours. I mean, everyone knows Beyonce wears wigs and lacefronts, she's even talked about before how they are necessary to protect her hair from all of the styling that her career demands.

I think this contest is different. I mean, the call specifically talked about how Patene is trying to celebrate women of color and their hair...it seems like wearing artificial hair would violate the spirit of the contest. Plus, I would hate to see a woman with fake hair in the commerical representing women of color and have someone look and say, "Oh, well that can't be her hair. AND have the be right." Just my .02.

Trust me, I'm with you. I was being facetious.

i got the email too. i did the video on a whim one night. i shouldnt of done it right after a hardcore aphogee treatment but i was in a great mood and it was fun doing it..lol.

Why did I spot a weave on page 1? I pray I'm wrong.

I saw Sylver2, I am happy she sent a vid in...She has great hair! No Ma'am, you would be correct, that was a weave on pg 1 and she needs to stop it. I am mad at the little nape piece that fell first and then the rest was perfectly even. Wow.

Errah I don't know about that short nape piece of hair being an indicator of a weave on Anaya. Many women suffer from hair breakage only around the edges of their hairline & the nape.

eta; that site mixed up the names of one of the girls. It says Nicole Butler but she says in the video her name is joy wingersinger. LOL
