Both are very good and I never knew either before joining here!!! ESP. the bold! All I was over told was......Don't scratch it!

What should be taught here?
-Preparation techniques for the hair AND scalp before a relaxer treatment. This include what should be done to prevent scalp burns and protect previously relaxed hair from overlapping/over-processing.
-One should know the differences in the effects of lye and no-lye relaxer on the hair and scalp.
-Know whether you want your hair bone-straight or texlaxed and what to do to accomplish each of them.
-One should know how long to keep relaxer in their hair according to their hair texture.

What would you be interesting in learning?
-I would be interested in learning how to consistently get the same texlaxed results every single time.

If you taught a class, what would it be?
-I would teach someone how to prepare their hair for the relaxer process and the care of the hair post-relaxer.

Self-relaxing 101 basic techniques to self relaxing, other techniques such as the half/half method

with a ''wig'' you could put on and practice on it

I would teach a class in keeping hair properly moisturized.
This is so important.:yep:

Aggie, I know you would have a class full. Your class would be one I enrolled in right away. It's so important to protect the scalp and we can't leave this totally in the hands of the person doing the relaxer. I KNOW there are some people who would want to know this now.

dag...this should be interesting, I never could figure out relaxed hair...Even w/4-6 month stretches, once I got a new relaxer, my successful growth would break off(??)

  • What should be taught here? Retention methods.
  • What would you be interesting in learning? Beautiful, easy, yet elegant protective styles.
  • If you taught a class, what would it be? Retention. I didn't know I was the number 1 reason why my hair wasn't retaining length.

To the red - I could write a dissertation on this subject.

HERE ARE MINE:grin:

1) First of All A Re-Education and Dis-spelling of Myths taught and perpetuated in Salons about the Cair of Relaxed Hair.

2) Teach what products should be used on Keeping Relaxed Hair Healthy" What Products Promote Growth, Eliminates Dryness and Overall Hair-Health.

3) The Pros & Cons of Lye vs No-Lye

6) Set-back Support and how to deal with certain relaxed related issues.

What should be taught here? proper application techniques, not going over the time frame allotted for your application, how to avoid overlapping, proper basing of hairline, scalp etc.

What would you be interesting in learning? I learned alot going to work with my moms at the salons so nothing.

If you taught a class, what would it be? I would like to teach application techniques, proper smoothing etc. hairtypes and relaxer strengths. proper haircare for relaxed heads i.e. trimmings.....oh wait you said A Class lol!!! ooops hair excites me

What should be taught here? Stretching, Texlaxing & Protien Moisture Balance.
What would you be interested in learning? How to get to tailbone length from WL in one year.
If you taught a class, what would it be? Roller setting.

I would join every class. Also there should be classes taught on low manipulation styles and protective styling.

Courses I would offer:

Yes You Can Have Silky Air Dried Hair!

Breaking Away from the Stylist: The Art of Self-Relaxing

You Need A Pibbs in Your Life: Get to Setting!

Life After 8 Weeks Post: Modifying Your Regimen to Accommodate all That New Growth

The classes I'd enroll in would be:

1. Styling 101.
In Styling, they'd teach how to do braidouts, twistouts, bantu knots, flat iron, and how to make some pretty buns. Because right now, I can do...pretty much none of those things.

2. Ayurveda 101
It would teach what all the powders and oils do, how to prepare them, and how to use them properly.

3. Advanced Rollersetting
I can rollerset almost perfectly, but I need to learn some stuff. I still have issues anchoring the rollers really firmly, and I still need to work on my tension.

4. Moisture 101
My hair exists in a perpetual state of dryness. ;_;

5. Trimming and Dusting 101
My hair is so lopsided, it hurts. :nono:
And I'm too frightened to let a stylist up in my head to even it up, because I don't want to be taken to even ear length (and they will do it), so I just walk around with crooked hair. It would be so nice if I could learn to do even trims.

1. How to Achieve "Swang"
2. Long Term Stretching/ Transitioning
3. Pincurling Properly
4. The Joy of Rollersetting
5. Fly Styles with Flexi Rods
6. How to Choose a Hood Dryer
7. Bone Straight vs. Texlaxed
8. How to deal with criticism for being relaxed and proud
9. Phony Ponies 101
10. Self Trimming and other DIY adventures

Moisture, moisture, moisture.

Lesson 1: Grease is not moisturizer!

Lesson 2: Deep condition regularly so that you don't have to moisturize every day and weigh your hair down.
