The under side of your hair...

On any given lock of hair, if you feel the underside of it--the hair feels softer, smoother, just better all around. I think this is a great way to judge your products too.

Many of you have probably noticed this already. I know that it's hard for me to keep my hands out of my hair now that I have discovered this.

I wish there was a way to get the top sides to feel this way too, but I guess it's all about exposure. The hair that is the least exposed is in the best condition. More evidence to support those protective hair-styles too

I've never paid much attention this...I already have a serious case of HIHD (Hand in Hair Disease!). You definitely can tell the difference in the hair that's been protected...

Hmmm...I actually think my hair feels equally soft all over.
I cant think of a time when I noticed a difference between the underside and the top part.

not necessarily a bad thing soulchild --the underside is more "protected" than the top side, that's all.

i notice this too!! ITS A HUGE DIFFERENCE!! i wish i could cover my hair with another layer!lol
seriously if you part my hair, the hair underneath is darker, much much shinier and softer. its so telling!

That's how it is with me. I also get more breakage on the top and it just makes it look like my overall hair is more damaged than it is because that's the part that shows.

Actually, my underside is not as healthy as the topside. I think it's because, in general, I pay more attention to the topside. My underside is exposed to sweat, friction from clothing, etc.

I've been trying to correct the problem by going back to my old habit of flipping my hair over at night. If my hair is pressed, I flip my head over and then comb/brush my hair forward. I then secure it underneath my silk scarf. I've noticed that my underside isn't as frizzy looking when I do this which makes me want to try updos. It also give my hair a little more body for the next day. I'm also trying to distribute my products more evenly throughout my hair.

The underside of my hair IS smoother and softer. Todd cut my hair into layers, and layers near the nape tangle in the shower less than the crown layers as I near touchup. The underside layers behave best overall, despite the risk of rubbing on clothing. I think I comb from the outside of my hair to detangle it in the shower, causing more stress and breakage there, too...

My underside of my hair has always been shinier and silkier than the rest of my hair. The underside gets minimum manipulation as opposed to the top part of my hair which makes this part of my hair the healthiest.

I didn't even realize it until I started putting my hair up...

Do you guys think there's anything that can be done about it besides extra conditioning, watching to be sure you are well neutralized back there if yo realx and gentle handling?

I'm very disheartened by it.

Tracy, I used to have a TWA in my nape area - - not even enough to put on a roller. It had broken off from hats, friction, and just plain ignoring that part of my head. When I joined the board in May, I saturated my nape every nite w/ SCurl and now, that hair is 3 inches long and it takes a yellow roller. Now I can wear a ponytail w/ kitchen poking out all over the place!! HTH. I thought I remembered you saying that u didnt like SCurl for your hair....
