The Pros and Cons of Long Hair

Pros:

Keeps your back warm!

Is heaven when being washed i feel like those sexy mermaids lmao

makes me look feminine

Being able to do a nice full bun

Cons:

people touching it up

Not knowing what to do with it on the odd occasion gets me stressed cuz theres just so much of it on my head

when i'm trying 2 give a kiss and it gets in the way!

when i think its all clipped up while i'm brushing my teeth and BAM! toothpaste n hair do NOT MIX!!

You know I was going to start a thread like this, just couldnt figure out how to word it!!

Also I see alot of folks talk about ppl touching their hair, the only ppl that can touch my hair is my husband and really good friends. I know I use to stroke my best-friends hair alllllllll the time(she was hispanic and waist lenght), I'd just braid it up, then take it back down, and run my fingers through, lol now I think about it I probably annoyed the **** out of her!! my silly self.

Shoulder to BSL lenght

Pros:
It looks good when its wet
I can put it in a pony-tail and go
Knowing that its possible for black women to obtain such length
Knowing its all mines
Just feeling it on my back *lol*

Cons:
It slapping me in the face cause its wet when Im out the shower
Or when I just wash my hair, not take a shower and the wet hair hits my back!!* i hate that*
It being chewed along with my food.
When I have to section to put it the protective style I wear to sleep(its annoying having to put all that hair up sometimes*

BSL to Waist - Pros, I just love having long hair. I've had long hair all of my life, and I can't imagine ever having short hair.

Cons, takes too long to dry and it's always in a ponytail.

*easy styling: even on a bad hair day, a braided ponytail will look nice
*more styling options
*will look good
*make me feel more feminine

Cons
*MORE TANGLES... i hate detangling with a passion
*more haters, but oh well, hehe, that's life
*more products! conditioners will waste quickly
*more money at salons, but then again, i dont go often...
*hair might get in the way, but i'm mostly a ponytail girl

Cons: Tangles like a ****, I almost had a nervous breakdown one day detangling my hair after washing. Made me seriously think about cutting my hair.
Rollersetting it. I HATE it.
Gets caught in stuff, like car window, seatbelt, lipgloss

Im in the shoulder-length just a little past my collarbone category

Pros:
I'm taking pride in watching my hair get healthier and healthier, I'm growing out a lot of areas that were damaged and seeing them fill in is so encouraging.

Easy to rollerset and the curls have some hang-time when I let them loose

It works well with my face

Versatility with styles

It has a lot of fullness that I like, especially when I have some new growth

People consider it to be long for some reason....?????

Because it's a little past my shoulder and touching my collarbone, i dont have to be so worrisome about my ends like I used to be

Cons:

I still have to watch my ends

I want to be APL already! lol

I don't have long hair but I can tell you some of the crazy things I go through:

Cons:
People wanting to touch your hair after they have eaten a piece of greasy chicken.
When swimming your hair tickles your armpit.
I have to sweep the floor a lot for long, shedded hair.
Takes a long time for my hair to dry sometimes.
People always tell me "if I had long hair like that..." or "when I used to have long hair I used to..."

Pros:
-I can throw it in a bun or ponytail in 3-5 minutes
-Love how it blows in the wind
-More styling options
-Haters
-Calls for more cute hir accessories like hairsticks and such
-Covers my face...when i wanna shut ppl out.
-Braidouts are the BOMB!!!!
-Loving my long ponytail!!
-I feel like a Supermodel/Pocahontas/Exotic creature from a sci-fi...lol

Cons:
-Ppl always askin me what i "do" to my hair...and then not believing me!
-Friends and family affectionately yanking on my ponytail
-Gets caught when i have it down and i put my purse on my shoulder
-When i sit in a chair...it gets caught between my back and the chair....YANK!! I would like another glass please!....not cute!
-It doesnt really fit in my bonnets at night anymore....im resorting to satin pillowcases...gotta get used to not always having a head covering
-Drinks conditioner like water!!!
-Has a mind of its own
-Haters

Pros:

1. Style versatility
2. I like it. It's natural to me.
3. My hubby likes it.
4. It costs less than wigs and weaves to achieve the same look.

Cons:

1. I have to deal with the "light-skinned girl with long hair" stereotype from those with insecurity and colorist issues.
2. Takes longer to style.
3. Takes longer to wash and dry.
4. Gets in my face
5. When it's hot, I feel like things are crawling on me.
6. Hubby pulls on it during sex (wait a minute, that's a pro )

Its simple, simple, simple. My regimen is wash-n-gos.

Cons:
There's only one..okay two hairstyle options: Out, out with a headband.

I love revived old threads! I'm in the MBL - WSL category.

Pros:
- I love my long ponytails
- My buns are fuller
- I feel prettier
- My hair makes me feel confident
- Easier to style

Cons:
- I go through a bottle of conditioner in 2-3 applications
- I have to make my own DC's otherwise I'd be broke
- Takes over an hour to dry
- I almost break my arms trying to rollerset

Pros
I love having long hair! I feel like I look better with it.
It becomes easier to maintain. And the longer it grows, the less frizz I have.
It's becoming easier to detangle (i.e., less shrinkage).

Cons
It takes forever to dry.
I'm more prone to split ends because I have more hair to maintain.
I'm running out of creative hair styles.
I have more hair to moisturize.

- Its pretty
- Ponytails don't take forever to make after APL
- I can bun it
- I can flip it and flaunt it (I'm a show off)
- SO loves long hair, especially on me

Cons
- It gets caught under book bag and purse straps
- It takes more product to upkeep
- It takes longer to dry

- freedom of having short hair

-it's not long
-it took 5 months to grow from twa to ear lobe length (straight) but ear length curly
- I still can't put it in a ponytail and go
- lot more maintainance (to me that is)

I always had to put my hair in a ponytail to eat. Not too big of a price to pay.

I am between sl and bsl:

Pros:
My hair is healthy
I can put it in a bun
I like the length
Looks really nice in a side puff
I have learned how to retain my length
I can do more hair styles
I can stretch out my relaxers for six months or more without losing all my hair.
I can take care of my own hair.

Cons:
It is getting really thick and I hate detangling my hair
I hate combing and styling my hair
My hair is uneven and I cannot wear it down curly without it looking like a mullet
I want to cut my hair back to ear length(so easy to deal with)
I am not looking forward to bsl because my hair will be huge!!!!
I hate moisturizing my hair because I have to do it in sections or my hair will just dry out
I hate to wash my hair because I only detangle on wash days and it is alot of work
My hair takes forever to dry


Once I grow my hair out to bsl(just want to see if I can do it) I may just cut it all back to ear length.

That's called hair anorexia. My hair "feels" average and boring to me when its straight and I'm MBL.

- fulfilling a long cherished wish I had as a little girl. No longer do I have to sit with short chewed up hair watching white girls hair flip me. I can do a mean hair flip myself should I choose to.

- a sense of accomplishment that I stuck to my plans and made this dream come true by sheer force of will

- I can inspire other BW to do the same

- I get to pay it forward. When I was a newbie, a poster on here gave me a shoulder and even mailed me products for FREE. Now I try to help newbs as much as I can.

- it makes me feel more feminine

- it makes me feel sexy sometimes. In the shower when I tilt my head back and it sweeps my hips... I feel like a sex goddess

Cons

- haters. I know some on here don't think haters exist like they are leprechauns or something but they do.

- stares. I never know if someone is crazy and will decide to jump me because my hair is longer than theirs is (or the standard reason: She think she cute" )

- undesired male attention. The hot Askars looking guys don't notice, but every toothless scrub on the planet wants some of my time

- hair anorexia. DH got so mad at me the other day. I was trying to tell him DS's MBL hair isn't really that long (he's 2.5yo) and he blew up. He's like "Don't you see? His hair is as long as yours." I was like "but my hair isn't.." and before I could get the word out he interrupted "It IS LONG!!!! You have hair anorexia!!!! You need help!!" It is real... sometimes I feel depressed that my hair isn't "long" yet... and yet when I see a woman with BSL hair I am like Her hair is long!
