This is right on time L. Brown!
I need advice on my touch up, please. Ok so last time I royally screwed up! I put all my hair into little tiny ponytails pre sectioned, thinking it would be faster. I put all the relaxers on and then panicked and took out all the ponies and washed out the relaxer I was freaking out so I thought it had been hours but it was really only about 4 minutes. I looks like I never did anything but the texture feels different than the hair at my roots. I never got any breakage but I think I still have 3 textures(New growth, touched up hair that is slightly smoother but looks like new growth and texlaxed). I haven't tried to fix because I have to do a touch up sometime in the second week of September (its apart of my master plan). So my question is should I treat all but the texlaxed perfect hair as new growth? Just sort of pretend like my failure never happened and retouch everything? What do I do? HELP HELP EELP
Thank you for starting this thread! I'm a new texlaxer and also new to LHCF.
I just had my hair texlaxed for the first time in December 2010... And, while I loved my fro, I am very happy with the results!
I went to Miss Jessie's NYC Salon. While it was expensive, I felt more comfortable leaving my first application up to professionals. In the future, after I do LOTS and LOTS of research... perhaps I'll feel more comfortable doing it on my own.
I plan to stretch at least 12-16 weeks between touch-ups.
I'm excited to learn more from all of the veteran texlaxers out there
You have beautiful hair!!!
I have been self-texturising since May 2009. I touch up about every 6 mths. Feel free to ask questions if you want to know any thing. My hair is currently flat ironed but I'm washing it tonight so I will take pictures.
How have you been wearing your hair lately? so you have problems with ssks??
SSK problems?? stretch the hair while its airdrying by twisting or braiding it in sections.
I also texlaxed straighter so when I airdry it airdryes more straight after i comb it out but not so much where when i plop/plunk and it looks like I have 3c curls. I LOVE IT! NOW i have the best of both worlds lol. I was going to transition to natural but I'm going off to college soon and after that med school and Idk if i'll have the energy to fight with my natural hair again...talk about thick!!!
I am texlaxed but I think I need it to be a little straighther because I suffer from ssks if my hair is not as straight as it can be after washing (don't know if that makes sense). The problem I am having is deciding whether to do it at home or go to the salon. I am so torn with my decision. If I do it at home I would do in sections because I do not apply the relaxer as fast as I would like to. Also, on some strands the roots are nappy then I have a section of straight hair then there is a section of curly hair. how do i get them all the same or close to the same texture? Any help would be appreciated..TIA
What was the telaxing process you used last time? Step by step
@ smiley82... I totally missed this girl
I'm a new texlaxer and also new to LHCF.
Well let me try and remember what i did..It was very simple steps.
1. Mix olive in my motions mild relaxer (next time I am going to use Alter ego linange shea butter texturizer). Let it sit and section air in 4 parts and base scalp.
2. Apply relaxer to already sectioned hair. I did the back half first
3. Rinse out relaxer with water after 10 mins no smoothing. then applied Aphogee reconstructor, waited 3 mins then rinse with neutralizing shampoo. Put up back half and start on front section
4. Repeat step 3. for first half.
5. After all relaxer as been rinsed out applied a moisturizing deep conditioner. I think it was the Elasta QP soy oil moisturizing deep conditioner to entire head with heat for 45 mins.
6. Rinse out deep conditioner apply leave-in then blow dry and style
I think I may need to leave it in longer or maybe I did something wrong.. I really dont know at this point. I do know that a month later after I did a aphogee hard core protein my the middle part of my hair looked like it wasnt even processed. I dont know what to do
That process sounds about right.... not sure how your ended up with straight hair mid shaft and wavy ends
Doing a corrective may be a bit difficult as you may have to coat the straight hair with vaseline and put relaxer on the roots first then on the ends for a short time.
I would suggest that you start gathering your shed hair and begin testing and timing the process. Get some strands from each quarter/section of ur head and determine how long each section needs to be processed in order to achieve your desired texture. This is important because one head of hair may have different textures. e.g The middle of my head takes the longest to process so I leave relaxer on it for about 12 mins instead of 10. You may also have to test how long it take for curly ends to get to the desired texture.
Hope this helps
Let me know what you come up with if you decide to do it.
I will and thanks for replying. I came up with the same idea you suggested but for some reason I am scared it wont work out. My hair is like yours my middle takes the longest to process and I think next relaxer I will relax in four sections instead of two to better fine tune it. That is also the same reason why I wanted to do it at home because most stylist wont have the patience to deal with and get the different textures to match..crosses fingers and toes and hope it works. Thanks for the suggestion.
I don't know how I missed this thread, but I'm a texlaxer. I have about 2-3" of relaxed hair to trim off. I use Vitale Sensitive Scalp No-Lye mixed with a few squirts of Aphogee 2 min reconstructor, then I smooth and leave it on maybe 10 minutes. I didn't smooth it for the first few touch-ups, but I ended up with so much tangling and so many ssk's... it was a mess, so now I smooth. The end result is definitely not straight, or even wavy, but I will say, it's more malleable and less frizzy. I'm pleased.
I recently had a set back because I wasn't trimming regularly and I got some breakage at the line of demarcation, but that's at the ends. My texlaxed hair is doing just fine which, as a fine 4a/b, is really saying something.
Just wanted to post some pics of my texturized hair. These pictures were taken today, sorry about the quality, taken from my web cam....
Im hoping that this thread would be a good resource for anyone who is in need of good information on texturised/texlaxed hair.
Can you ladies post some pics of your hair? Some texture shots, styles etc. I would love to see how you style your hair.
Lately i've been bunning and I wana spice things up a little. Im currently attempting a braid out... not sure how this will come out because i have failed many times before.... keeping fingers crossed. Im currently 3 months post so wash an go's are not working for me anymore...
TIA
Awww, thanks, you too! That pic is so old, I need to take some new pics, but I can't find the charger for my camera so it'll be a while.Beautiful hair!! I see you have mastered rollersets, any tips for a fellow texlaxer?

About rollersetting, since my hair is soooo fine in some places, I find it best to do them on air-dried hair because, 1, it's less manipulation of wet hair, and 2, letting it puff up a little bit gives me some much needed volume. Section by section, I moisturize, seal, then roll. I use water in a spray bottle, some creamy LI (lacio lacio or PM the conditioner), and seal with either Chi SI or pure argan oil. The water is just to make the hair stick to the roller. I spray the bottom half of my hair very lightly, so it dries pretty fast (within an hour or so depending on humidity). The majority of the moisture for this set comes from the LI so I coat my strands well.
This set (using purple flexis) is my go-to winter PS and can easily last until the next wash day. To sleep, I 'pineapple' the curls on the top of my head, pin them up, and tie on my scarf. Occasionally, I'll put a little more serum or argan oil.
Rollersets in general are tricky. It's way easier if you start with damp hair as opposed to soaking wet hair, especially since you're already texlaxed. Thanks chic, after i get the hang of braidouts I will try rollersets.... urgh... so many styles to learn
Thanks for sharing ladies!! After being natural for 5 years I'm going to finally texlax my hair. I'm a little nervous, but I've had a lot of setbacks over the years so I want to try something different.
