What exactly do you get for this fee? You all mention hand-holding, how much hand-holding? If it's enough, $10 might not be too bad. You could maybe join for 3 months and get what you need and $30 for 3 months of mentoring in anything is not that much money spent. Shoot, I get $50/hr to private tutor, so I'm not going to try to say someone shouldn't charge someone $10/mo for a service. My only question is, how much service are you getting? Is there anything extra personal about it? Does she have a certain number of private emails you can have with her during that time? What are all the perks? Before we can decide if it's overcharging I think we'd have to actually know what we'd be getting for the price.

That said I won't be joining because the site's main leader is relaxed and I wouldn't ask a relaxed person for hair advice for my hair. They may know, but they ain't living the natural haired life and I'd rather take advice from someone who is sharing my hair experiences. Shoot, I saw her comb her hair, my hair combing don't look nothing like that.

I used to be a member when it was free but I can't even log on the site with my old log in name.

I was going to start a thread on this....dissapointed in her is how i feel.

She got most of her hair care knowledge on here for the grand price of 5dollars (she didnt renew her subscription afterwards) from ladies that give tips, videos and pictures for free...

but she has now taken some of our valued members to this exclusive new site where you have to pay 120 dollars a year and buy her videos to learn about hair care:nono:

She already had long hair when she came to this board and she already had her regimen down. I do hate that shes charging that type of fee. Thankfully Bev only charges us that $6.50.

My first impression was, "who is that!?" (referring to the woman on the home page. She doesn't look like Macherie.)

I won't be joining the site. I wasn't a member of the original healthytextures either. I like the videos that she'd posted, but I have all that need with LHCF.

ITA, it doesn't look like her.

I highly doubt she came here and got all she could and just left. She was a member for a while. That said, i think her site is nice. It is pricey, but she isn't the only one over it. She has others helping her and giving advice. So it doesn't sound too bad. I am so wanting to try it out for at least one month and see how it is.

she must have some skills. i mean she sold rollersetting dvds and she made some money off of it. folks were saying how the dvd helped them..even though they had been setting for years. so even with all the free knowledge (or the $6.50 priced knowledge) folks will step up and spend more for more info.

good luck to her. i won't be paying $120 and I am considering not paying $6.50 next year because folks on here lurking got longer hair than me.

oohhh so you a natural haired racist  joking lol! lmao! :lachen: thought i'd throw some humor into this.

They may have good advice for you. we have all been natural at some point in our lives (transitioning to natural etc) and we should all know how to maintain natural hair so the advice they would give should be accurate and helpful, some people are just too rough with their hair and or just don't know what to do with it, i think the women who don't know how to care for their hair without a stylist is a person that may need her site, i'm cheap and I know what to do with my hair so i'm def not joining....yeah yeah i know no one asked me to join either

I have friends that would never attempt to do their own hair, they are scared to do anything to it without a stylist, so her site may be useful to them as well because they may just have no idea and need some consulting.

Well she can probably reel some folx in b/c her hair is rather lovely..and i have watched a few of her Youtube videos...but 10.00 monthly is asking way to much IMO..and i could see if she gave you free access to her videos for paying members but , you would have to purchase those as well....

no...not if i can do reasearch and learn the same things here and other forums that are free...

I don't think she's trying to take advantage of anyone. She isn't the first entrepreneur to take free info from LHCF and monetize it. Plus, her target audience may not be folk like us who eat, sleep and breathe this stuff. There are newbies out there in desperate need for advice and possibly a mentor.

Spending $9.99 a month for helpful advice is better than wasting it on most of the crap found in beauty supply stores IMO.

That is true..i cant say that 6 years ago when i started searching the web for hair care advise as a newbie, that i may have paid for her site then.. i may have very well done it...shoot..i paid a grip for some allmiighty grow long hair in a month pills back then...so why not 10 bucks a month...:rolleyes:

yeah it is a tad bit pricey and all the info is on here for waaaay cheaper, i don't believe in charging ten times more when this site is here, like one of the other ladies sad nothing on one site from the next is gonna matter unless you take care of your hair yourself and or with a trust worthy stylist.

I sell my dominican products, i have sold to some people on here, but i'm not gonna hike the prices up either because of it. i have also seen really good FREE rollersetting vids on youtube, and i'm not hating either if people are paying you for it then hey take advantage, but how much advantage?

I have gone to a lot of sites non hair related that have done this block you from viewing it's contents unless you pay a hefty membership fee.

the people giving advice on her site better come through the computer monitor and do my hair for me every week for $99 for a hair site lol!!!!!
I know....i was curious about her roller setting video, but i ran across another young lady..i dunno if she is a memeber here but sounds like she is or was by the hair "lingo" she uses..her name is lorraine i believe...and if it wasnt for her video tutorial..i had no idea how to rollerset...but her Youtube vid had me in a really decent roller set in 45 mins...and it was smooth too...i have to thank her when i get a chance...i really didnt wanna pay for that..

I know, i remember when this board was free and Bev came too us about the 5 dollar propasal...some got a bit snippy..but we realized it was well worth it...even my SO said 6.50 a year...as much as u are on there..thats a good deal...so i am grateful that its 6.50 a yr...and not a month...hopefully it will stay that way for a while... at least..

:lachen: chile i been on here over 5 years with shoulder length hair...dont feel bad..:lachen:

Yeah Lorraines videos are very thorough, they are still on youtube, they are long but thorough.

with me practice is gonna have to end up making perfect.............eventually.

I might need to look at that. I tried macherie's dvd and my set came out okay, not as great as I hoped. I think it may just be me though, I'm clueless when it comes to styling.

I wont be joining the site but good luck to her.

I'll admit that it does look good from what you can see & that rollersetting DVD was the bizness. I wish everyone who decides to join the best and I can't wait to hear how the new website works out. I don't actually see myself joining, though.

i think the point of hair care websites are to help one another, i understand on here you have to maintain the sites and to have space for all of these threads on the servers, but it's not a lot of money.

to me it's more of the sisterhood on this site, will her site have the same feel? or will it be like i gave you a consult for 10 mins now pay more to continue consulting with the specialist for their expertise.

when u get a chance..take a look at lorraines video and let me know how it compares to macheries roller set video...i would really like to know if there is any major differences...

only thing in Lorraines vids that i would not do is go over my hair again with an extra fine tooth comb after going over it with a regular rat tail comb.

That's a good point...never thought of it like that! :lachen:

I already know ladies, stay on topic, but off topic. Shelli Gurl I love the color of your hair. Is that natural or color treated?[/quote]

I was going to ask the same thing!

Thank you! It's natural. Both of my parents have sandy brown hair. So do my boys.

Very pretty. :yep:

I totally agree with the above...

If she was a certified hair consultant, by all means charge people tons...it wouldn't bother me at all..but she had an advert that you had to pay her for her to answer Hair Qs.
And i understand the reasoning behind charging for the new site, but the price is far too much
