The MOST annoying question.....

i get all of those questions. none of them bother me. even though there are many of us here with longer hair, yall have to remember that that is the exception not the rule. so of course the questions will arise. some folks just don't know any better. it does bother me when people are rude in the way that they ask, but i just chalk it up to ignorance.

ginuwinesboo, i understand what you're saying. i used to wear my hair down all the time. it was nicely styled and healthy looking too. unfortunately, it stayed the same length for like 18 years. in all fairness, using alot of heat also contributed to it remaining the same length for so long.

if i have to wear it up more than down to achieve my goal, i can live with that because i know that doing that is working. i could probably wear it down more than i do at this point, but i think that just makes it take longer to get to my goal since i'd probably need trims more frequently than twice a year. maybe i'll wear it down more once i get there, but i'm not sure yet...

I know some people may not mean it as a compliment but I think in general it's best to take it as a compliment unless theres clearly a rude attitude. I think some people honestly admire healthy and often long hair so much that to them they can't understand wearing it up 99% of the time or perhaps they don't have as much knowledge about caring for hair so they may not understand the benefit of protective styles. I personally wear my hair down most of the time so I can't say that protective styles are what allows my hair to be long, in my experience things like avoiding heat, simple routines and most important the things I've learned from this board have allowed me to grow my hair to this length. I do agree that less is more in the general care of my hair, but that doesn't stop me from wearing fun styles as long as they don't involve direct heat (I've cut back). Not everyone with long hair wears protective styles in order to acheive their length and not everyone who asks why those of us that do means it in a negative way. Some people may not understand benefits of protective styles or simple routines, I would just take it as a compliment that someone thinks your hair is too beautiful to
