The longer my hair gets, the thinner it gets

I agree. My crown is several inches shorter than my nape (even though I have cut my nape several times to try to make it look even.) AND I also dust and search and destroy which makes my ends even thinner. My hair strands are relatively the same width from root to tip though.

Thanks ladies for the input ladies!

To answer a few questions:

I only colored once, so I don't think that's a factor. I'm growing it out because I'm tired of it

When I relax, I always coat my hair in conditioner. I mean, the length is SATURATED in conditioner, so I don't think that's the problem either

I was thinking about getting layers, but some say it makes your hair look thinner while others say they make your hair look thicker. I just don't know :perplexed

Tiff, do you only flat iron or do you break it up and rollerset? Brainstorming as much for you as I am for myself...

I also noticed that my hair gets thinner as it gets longer, so I was going to start coating my hair with conditioner when I relax in a week or two to see if that will make a difference over time, but I guess doing that probably isn't going to help :ohwell:

Tiffers, your hair is NOT thin. It does look A LITTLE thinner than before, but just give it time.

You want to see thin?

Those ends are thin :nono: It's been like that ever since my nape started growing past my shoulder. Since they don't look damaged or split, I think it's mostly the layers that make it look like that :(

Just yesterday I really had to stop myself from cutting them off. I will see if my crown layer just needs time to catch up to my nape layer. It DOES start looking thin around where my crown layer stops, so that gives me hope.

I say give it time. Chicoro had something in her fotki about how her hair thins as it grows, but thickens up after a while too.

This is EXACTLY how my hair looks... :( Thick and luxurious all around except the nape looks scarce. We are about the same length.

I do believe that it's because some sections of my hair grows faster than others. So it looks thin until the rest of the hair catches up (which may take longer than I'd like).

If you're trying to reach a goal length, it doesn't make sense to cut it because it's just going to keep growing back in the exact same pattern. So it's best just to wait it out, and wear styles that don't emphasize length right now. It sucks, but I'm hoping that by Spring/Summer my hair will have evened up some.

I have experienced what you're talking about years ago and found the culprit. My hair in the crown area was very uneven, broken off and thin so the longer my hair got, the more see-through it looked. I had to cut my see through bra strap hair nearly up to my shoulders to solve the problem (either that or put tracks in to make it "appear" fuller). :ohwell: Try clipping the half bottom of your hair up (like in a mini bun) and combing the sides and crown down to see what it looks like.

Okay, Eisani, I gotcha now :yep:

I definitely rollerset more than I flat iron. I'm in bootcamp and heat is a no-no. I've been bad and used heat about 5 times this year though :ohwell:

I rarely wear my hair down, and when I do, it's mostly rollersets, braidouts, etc.

Allandra, I dust a few times a year. I hardly get splits and am always wearing my hair up, so there's no need to trim. I dust every now and then just to even things up.
