Long thin hair ?????????

For some reason my hair is much longer than I thought it was, but my hair is not as thick as some of my sisters on LCHF. The longer my hair gets, the thinner it looks to me. I don't want APL that looks like long thin strands.( I think all of you know what I'm talking about. ) I think my hair woud benefit from some layers. I'd like to know what you think. :nono:

P.S - and I promise to post some pictures soon.

have you tried henna or biotin or castor oil? do that before cutting layers in.

see kinikakes' album for inspiration. it can be done!!

Good advice! I henna/indigo, take biotin and I just started using Jamaican Black Castor Oil (I L:love:VE it!) I have the thinniest-thin hair on this Forum and I have a thinning crown, but you can't tell (see my avatar) because I use these products/methods.

are u relaxed?

layers may only make your hair look thinner, especially on the ends.

yea blunt hair woll fine hair look thicker, layers will definitely make ur hair look "skinnier"

I agree with the other ladies. Try henna and castor oil first. They have saved my thin ends for sure.

I want to argue against the conventional wisdom that thin/fine haired ladies could get layers to make their hair appear thicker. I did this years ago, convinced that long layers would fill out my hair more. They did for a time, but once the hair grows out, everything is so uneven that some sections of the hair appears anemic. Also, if one side of your hair grows faster than the other as some women seem to experience, then layers would make that growth disparity much greater. It's best to allow the hair to grow in blunt style, if you can, keeping the ends dusted. I use Jamaican Black Castor Oil daily to seal my ends after using a moisturizer. I take the trifecta for hair thickening: Biotin, Pantothenic Acid, and B-Complex. Along with those I take a good multi and use Boundless Tresses (thanks, Naturallady ).

Also try a hair line that specifically increases the diameter of your hair, like Ojon Thickening or J/A/S/O/N Biotion.

Pls dont cut your hair in layers. I just saw a girl with BSL hair but really thin & in layers. Her hair looked anemic....sad really. I'm thinking about creating a LHCF business card and handing them out to people like her. :nono:

Dont do it!! Layers take forever to grow out leaving your longest layers thin and see thru like, I woould def try to grow out hair in a blunt cut.

My hair is genetically thin and has nothing to do with vitamins, supplements or castor oils. The only way I could achieve thick hair (not by picture) is if I didn't relax and even then I wouldn't be that thick. When I air dry, my hair appears thick and has a slightly coarse texture and when I mist with Aloe Vera my hair shaft swells up which gives me a thick full look. But, if I blow dry or flat iron, my hair is thin.

I just got layers last week, so you can get somewhat an idea of what layer would look like. :)

My hair is fine textured too but it is so dense that it looks thick. I agree with trying henna. Also texturizing instead of relaxing bone straight and dusting ends can give the hair more thickness as well It will thicken each strand.

Isn't that the truth (at the bolded part)? DSylla, your hair is amazing, just beautiful!

Edited to answer OP's question :look:: I would not get layers. Instead, I would stop using all direct heat, moisturize my ends daily, wear more protective styles, airdry as much as possible, and consider texlaxing. I would increase my protein intake and look into some of the supplements previous posters have mentioned. I would then do gradual trims, as needed, as the hair thickens up.

Layers on fine hair only really work when it's shorter but you'll have to style it so it looks that way. I would always get my hair blowdried at the salon (so it would look thicker) or get a roller wrap. The combo of the layers with the roller wrap made it look fuller. As it gets longer, it will look thinner. That's why I'm keeping all my hair the same length. My cousin has this problem and usually cuts her hair back to shoulder length for this reason. Fine/thin hair runs in our family. :ohwell:

I say just give it time!!!! Even though i am apl, alot of my broken strands are growing back. That too can give an illusion of thin hair if all your strands are different length. My friend gave me a trim last month and that helped the situation alot. So be patient and hang in there!

My hair is as well! I got the hair from my mother's side of the family (THIN!) :ohwell: I do find though that my henna treatments and the castor oil temporarily makes my hair look and feel thicker.

Keclee, your hair looks fabulous!

I would like to thank you all for your advice and support. Its just that I get so fed up with my hair sometimes and don't want to be one of those girls claiming APL or BSL with 5 strands of long hair. (I think you all have seen it and know what I'm talking about).
I would like to send a special Thank you to Keclee23, this is second post you've left for me since I've been here and I appreciate the advice. :urock:

I'm natural, but my hair is fine and I totally identify with your issue.
My hair was much thicker when it was shorter. But with increasing length it appears thinner when straightened. My stylist insists on flat ironing my hair bone straight, which always comes out looking thin. I've found that not getting the hair so super straight, and adding curls preferrably with rollers, helps give my hair a noticeably fuller appearance.
