The Good,Bad and the Ugly.Chock full o' pics!

Napp

Ms. Nobody
Well here are my updates.my progress isn't steallar because i have been going through some issues with my hair. feel free to just look at the pics or you can read if you want. some pics you may have seen already... and excuse my back! i had the wore case of bacne this summer:nono: i will probably reopen my fotki and post the pics there too.

if you didnt know already i have been heat training my hair for about a year or so.i dont have a fancy regimen. i would just press it with pressing oil once a month and wear a textured style until the next press.

In March '11 i gave myself a hair cut
flaredout.jpg

i have an issue with my hair being thin at the middle of my nape.

i began to rollerset my hair as a new style
braidcurlright.jpg

when it wasnt rollerset i wore it straight. i made some progress after 2 months

STbunback.jpg

apl.jpg

i rareley wear it "naturally" curly.too much work! here is is fully dry after leaving in a bottle of conditioner:lol:.
messy.jpg

for the most part though i enjoy wearing my hair straightned and curled like so
razaccurlslean-vi.jpg

the heat started to roll around and i had to find someway to wear my hair. this is the last straightening i did before i stopped straightening my hair. i was retaining length and all i did was wear my hair loose whether straight or in a rollerset.

straightwrazac.jpg

now around this point i was getting fed up with my hair. i was contemplating a relaxer. i decided against it(after a stern talking to by many friends and family:look:) and decided maybe i needed to try to embrace my hair texture a bit.

rollersets and bantu knot outs became my main style
orangerollerset.jpg

rodset

smoothrollerset.jpg

bantu knot out

my issue was that they would shrink terribly in the humidity.
shrunked.jpg

now i like the shrunken look alot. it reminded me of when i used to have a twa. but the tangles were a BEAST. eventually i got sick of having to detangle my matted rollerset twa every 3-4 days.

so i tried to do braid outs but they kept coming out weird and very undefined.

braidouttail.jpg

braidoutstreched.jpg

i tried to do the curly look but hated it. i used gel here and i didnt even let it dry all the way.

curlsgel.jpg

this led to my wet bun addiciton.
for every style fair i would get frustrated and put it into a wet bun
wetbun.jpg

lowwetbun.jpg

bunbreak.jpg
it eventually became a permananet fixture in my hair. i mean i just left it there for weeks. and did some other questionable practices that would make yall go

74647593_wtf_gif.gif

oneday when i decided to finally wash my hair i noticed it was looking thin especially on the left side so i decided to try and start doing my hair right again and put in some braids with the intention of growing out the broken parts.
topmicrotwist.jpg

microsidetwist.jpg

braidsmicro.jpg

i wore them when i went on vacation. i hated these braids! i felt they didnt look right on me at all. alot of people like them though.:ohwell:

after my vaycay i began to take them out. after a while i had to go to work so i needed a style for inbetween. so i went back to my trusty bun

microbun.jpg

that bun stayed in longer than it should have:look:
i actually met empressri while wearing this style.

after the braids i wore it in the bun for a while then i decided to try another style. so i went back to my old favorite style. Twists!

twistsloose.jpg

i used extention hair and they were so thick. i tried to curl them but the curls fell out. so i put them into an updo.
updotwistsext.jpg

it was uncofmortable to sleep in. and they frizzed terribly in a few days. i took them out at did mini twists with my real hair. i hated them and tried to curl them for some style.

minitwists.jpg

i didnt care for the look but other people seemed to like it.

after ALLADAT i was very through with my hair. i tried to straighten it and it poofed up as soon as the heating tool was removed from my hair. that send me over the edge. so i wet my straight/poofy mess hair and twisted it into this here effortlessly stylish do

hamtwists.jpg

then i heavily oiled my scap with castor oil(way too much oil according to my stylist:look:she had to get a towel to take excess off before we could do anything) and based my perimeter.

then i waited a day and got a relaxer, treatment, rollerset and blowout.my mom was kind and lent me the money when she say how frustrated i was after the straightening mess.

i got texturized with alter ego lineage texturizer although my hair is pretty straight with some wave to it which is what i wanted. i wanted a "texlax" but i didnt know how to tell the stylist that so there was a little issue with getting the message across...

i got an all over trim, she trimmed the thinnest ends off and a reshaping of the bang.when i got home here is how it looked

fromthesalon.jpg

WTF happned to my ends! i would like to say that its from the NYC rats nibbling on my ends while i nap on the train but i knew that this was the result of my negligence. Bone straight hair doesnt lie.

my hair looks decent in a ponytail
untrimponytail.jpg

i decided to trim it abit
trimponytail.jpg

aftercut.jpg

i dont know if it helped or not. i think i will just leave it be for a while. im very pleased with the length although by LHCF stndards my hair is short(and thin now:sad:). i would prefer a blunt cut though so i will be getting one when i get my next relaxer. hopefully i can be full BSL by the end of the year.

so i just cross wrapped and am leaving it alone

crosswrap.jpg

side note. why is my nape so textured after a fresh relaxer? she was smoothing the relaxerdown down like lotion on ashy knees! whats goin on here?!:lachen:

So thats it. Thanks for looking! and please tell me if the photos are fuzzy because my browser is acting a fool.

also i want to shout out to sunnieb for bumping relaxed threads,Rocky91 for getting me into rollersets Embyra for being supportive, @ everyone in the heat training thread and everyone who had listened to me complain about my hurr for these last couple months.:drunk:

Thanks for that thorough hair story! I bet it took forever to put all that together! Your hair looks good and i'm sure in time it will flourish even more. Best wishes!

Can I just say that when I got to the pic of Steve Urkel I HOLLERED :lachen: I needed that laugh so much!! Thank you!!

Your hair looks good! :yep: I don't think you'll have a problem reaching your goal at all. I loved the pic of your braids. I wish I could afford them right now. :nono: Just to have a break (but I've yet to find a replacement for my old reliable braid spray *sigh*).....

Your hair looks good...actually, at all stages! It sounds like you went thru so much frustration. That's how I felt with my hair before finally deciding to transition to natural. Question, I've never heard of someone relaxing hair that's already been heat trained (ain't been around these here parts for long) So do you have to do some extra strengthening or conditioning treatments to maintain the health now that it's relaxed and kind of "double processed"?

Op thanks do much for sharing your hair story. I'm going through this right now myself and trying to come to a conclusion on whats best for my hair.

Your hair stills looks good and I'm glad that you are happy with it because thats what matters. Do you still have a lot of texture when its wet? I'm asking cause I'm not sure if I want to get a texturizer or texlax.

aww we lost a heat training buddy :)
I agree.. your hair looked good at all stages.. and I love your pony tail.
Thank you for being honest and brave enough to share the ups and downs of your hair journey...Its appreciated. Sometimes all we hear are the positives...and forget that HHJs have many bumps in the road.

Your hair looks like it got even thicker since I last saw you! I knew you had to be a Nikos cousin cause that was such a cute protective style hehee

Your name is "Napp", I was expecting the kinkiest hair; but its really wavy and curly. Your name should be "Wave" :). So do you think it was the relaxer? All it would take was one relaxing session for me to lose my hair. Or could it be that you havent found the right products yet? Thanks for sharing your journey. Your pics up top are really thick; hope you can get back to that.

Napp - even though we have different curl patterns, your initial post reminds me of my hair journey. My hair also is fine-stranded and it looks the thinnest in the middle of the nape area when I wear it straightened, and I hate it! I wish it was thicker and fuller. I would go back and forth between heat straightening, curly twist-outs and bantu knot outs, buns, two strand twists, etc. And I couldn't stick with any of them. My braidouts also came out undefined as well. And with buns, I had to redo mine each day, and I didn't like how the bun would look different or look smaller each time I redid it. I'm also stuck at armpit length.

So I definitely feel your pain. The easiest style for me right now is wearing my natural hair straightened. I just sometimes get bored with it, but whenever I go back to wearing my hair naturally, I manipulate the heck out of it with different hair styles. Then I get tired of fooling with my hair and go back to straightening it only once a month. And I'll only wash my hair once a month too. I'm just going to continue with having natural hair instead of going to chemicals.

Charla i dont think so. even thought my hair was trained i dont feel like my hair was weaker than my raw natural hair. my curl pattern also did not change that much IMO.

Lynnerie well it has a little bit of wave when i saw it when i came from the wash bowl but i will really be able to tell once i get to wash and setting it. what helped me decide if i wanted a texlax vs a texturizer was if i wanted to be able to wash n go or not. if you want to wash n go id say texturize. if you wants to wear straight styles and wet sets id say texlax. please keep me updated! your hair is beautiful!

virtuenow when i came to the hair boards i didnt even know my hair could curl on its own. it was all fuzzy and nappy looking so thats why i called myself napp.

the relaxer didnt thin out my hair. actually when i relaxed i had the least amount of shed hairs/breakage i ever saw in the sink.i could literally count them! i never had my hair this bone straight so i think that the poofiness of ny natural straightenings masked the thinning. and while it was in a bun i wasnt able to monitor breakage like when it was loose so i didnt catch it until it got really bad.:nono:

plus the styles that i like were breaking off my hair. i like my hair flat and smooth and i was trying to get my puffy napps to do things it didnt want to. i am positive i will get my thickness back and perhaps even greater because i do not have to pull my hair so tightly or use so much products to get the flat smooth look i prefer.

Poohbear yes we have a similar experience!:yep: i have to redo the bun daily as well(i reslicked my bun daily)i am sick and tired of constantly having to "do" my hair and i am not a person who likes walking around letting my hair 'be' whatever it wants!I want to be in control! LOL i wish your journey goes well:yep:

thank you everyone for your kind words and support. hopefully in the future my updates will be more pornworthy :lick::lol:

i rareley wear it "naturally" curly.too much work! here is is fully dry after leaving in a bottle of conditioner:lol:.

Your hair was so pretty then. It makes me kinda sad that you wanted to heat train this. It looks so easy to straighten.

Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your journey. At least going through all your stages you know what you want to try next. With all the knowledge you have and what this board still has to offer your relax journey is in good hands as well. Happy styling and HHJ to you!

Maybe your nape didn't take cause there was too much oils covering it and the length of time the relaxer was on it. Next relaxer you can do a corrective on that area. Good luck!

ETA: Love the intensive pics and enjoyed the hair porn. I look forward to your future releases.

this is after a year and few months of heat training.lol it took a blowdryer, hot comb and a flat iron to get it straight in the pictures above. not easy at all! my hair looks like it should be able to do certain thangs but it doesnt:ohwell:

I LOVE how you did all the pictures and explanations! I really feel like I can understand your journey and frustrations.

Your hair looks lovely now and will only get better! :)

Whatever makes you happy Napp. So are you going to change your username now that you relaxed your hair? LOL j/k

I can understand your frustration. Natural hair takes time and dedication to take care of, especially after it starts to get longer. I can understand why someone would relax after a while. I thought your waves were beautiful BTW. I hope you enjoy your relaxed hair.

Gorgeous hair! I enjoyed reading your story. Although I know I would never relax again, sometimes I get tired of manipulating my hair as well (I like 'neat' styles as well). Anyhow, right now I'm just taking a break with weaves, crochet braids and going to venture into half wigs/lace wigs. When I get like this I just have to get my hands OUT OF MY HEAD, lol, before I cause major damage.

hehe thanks for the shoutout. :)
your hair looks great! i can't wait to see your rollersets/other styles now.

i felt like you were telling my story as well, just like Poohbear said. the amount of glam that I want on a daily basis is really not all that healthy for my fine, coily hair. I guess I will keep at it till I can't take it anymore. :/

YEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS:clap::clap::clap::congrats:Im so happy for you!

aahhhhh yes a fresh relaxer does the body good:grin: let me stop:lol:

I love your hair in ALL states i love your styles as well.....im challenged in that area:look:

awwww love these pics!!!:cloud9:.......ill be looking/stalking your progress in the relaxer threads:look::lol:
