The first thing people said when you went natural

I was so shocked. I was waiting for the punchline, but she was serious. She's the "friend" I mentioned in another post that is a hair snob. She has gorgeous, below bra strap length relaxed hair that she will flip in your face in a heartbeat. /images/graemlins/flyingwitch.gif

She has no idea how to maintain it, though. She mentioned that her hair was 1/2" long four years before we met because of damage from a jheri curl. (It was shoulder length when we met.) I tried to pick her brain for hair tips after we got to know each other, but she didn't know anything! She gets her hair done at the salon 2x a week. Her stylist charges $40 for a shampoo and wrap. /images/graemlins/shocked.gif I swear the only hair products she has at home are wrap lotion/creme, a comb and silk scarf. Years ago, her stylist's wife was having a baby and she kept paging him because she needed to get her hair done. /images/graemlins/blush.gif If this man ever retires she's going to be in trouble...

I was guilty of this. Since my hair isn't wavy or loosely curled, I thought natural hair meant my only styling options were an afro, dreads or braids. Then I ran across Dee Coily's hair album and I was like, "HEY! Her hair looks like mine!?" /images/graemlins/laugh.gif From there I found Monicurl and Motowngirl's albums and several others.
It makes me wonder why my mom and grandmother were so persistant about keeping my hair straight. They have both passed away, so I can't ask. But it looks fine the way it grows out of my head to me...

I was looking for a childhood photo of my natural hair for a hair album. I have NO photos of myself without pressed hair! My hair was like the crazy aunt you keep locked up in the attic! /images/graemlins/frown.gif
