The effect of LHCF

So I'm sitting in the computer lab trying to pass the time away, when I notice two women so far who have walked past me and had gorgeous heads of hair. In fact, I've been noticing it a lot lately. I see way more healthy heads lately and I think it's all from this board. Has anyone else noticed it in their area?

I live in Europe, but I've noticed that alot more black women are wearing their natural hair, I was in France a couple of weeks ago and noticed the same thing over there. I think black women are getting more and more concious about the health of their hair, which is a positive thing.

Well my cousin and I did our BC in April, she followed me by one week. Her mother, my aunt did not like it for a year and just friday she took the razor and shaved her head bald. BALD!!!. She was tired of the race, tired of it and now she feel liberated. But you are so right, I see more and more naturals then I ever did before. In fact, I seen a huge group going into Temple University this weekend a huge group. All natural complete naturals no color no style nothing but afros. chunky afros

I think times are changing...nautral hair is making a comeback but unfourtunatly people like to put kinky weave n their hair instead of the real thing...but I guess that is a step in the right direction

l live in the UK They categories i see

1. Dyed/fried layed to the side- i think just shave it off for goodness sake
Subsidary of this group the "Blanka" ( from streetfighter) hairdoe or don't. Around necklength relaxed hair that is either resistant or underprocessed. Its just trying to shoot up but can't so it just hovers midway in the air

2. Weird pseudo Natural Hairstyles like the porcupine wigs./ Giant Afro Wigs. A favourite of African ladies. Often accompanied with a bleached face.

3.Horibble Braids. Messy, too tight just plain wrong.

4. Weaves gunked in oil, shiny chinese hair and stiff as a board.
I miss the glamazon weaves in Brixton, i mean it can look fake and still look good, but they don't even try.

5. Hair gelled to forehead/scalp creating a helmet look. Beloved of mixed race girls. Hair is often filthy due to the tin of Gel used daily. Traction alopicia often a given.

I live in NYC and I'm seeing more healthy hair than ever. Too chicken to ask if they're hip to Nikkos though. I keep hoping I'll recognize someone from their avatar or siggy pic.

Everyone where Im from are mostly 4a's and b's walking around. It's rare for me to see a black woman with anything less napply lol. Also long hair on black women is also rare where im from. Guess they haven't checked out LHCF yet.

I have noticed a lot more healthy heads of hair since I joined LHCF but I think it is because I am more focused on hair now. There were probably just as many healthy heads of hair before I joined LHCF I just wasn't paying as much attention. But there has been a few occasions when I wanted to ask "Are you Nikko's cousin?"

Ahhh, you're probably right. A year ago I don't remember caring.

Sounds like Germany.
Just in germany you also have an abundance of bleached(orange) type 3 hair, natural or permed and not healthy looking.
My friends and I always looked in admiration to GB and France and how *on point* there hair was over there.Oh well, then you know it must be bad:ohwell:

Lansing, Michigan checking in and we have sista’s with beautiful hair here. The state of black women hair has gotten a lot better in the last 5 years or so. I have always noticed hair but the length and vitality of the hair has defiantly gone up. Michigan is more conservative so you don’t see a lot of the crazy hair fashions unless you are in Detroit. Even there recently the new look for hair whether it’s weaved or natural is soft and realistic. I also think black women are really advancing and developing wholeness in every area of our life including our image and we are doing what we want to do instead of submitting to other people’s image of beauty.

I think I'm just noticing hair overall. Of course the healthiest heads catch my eye the most, but sometimes when I see raggedy ends or bad weaves, I want to tell them about baggies and blending.

I'm with you, I've started noticing because now I pay more attention. Actually, I now notice the good, the bad, and the ugly!

Heehee:lachen: I was just going to ask the same thing. I would go up and say, "By any chance, you wouldnt happen to have a cousin named Niko, would you?":look:

BTW, who came up with the name Niko anyway? Thats too funny:lol:

Well I live in a small town in CA, and it has an Africian American population of about 1.5%. I only have about 5 other heads to look at. :D Seriously though, the heads that I see run the gamut from "a hot mess" to "nice", but I haven't seen any that would rate as an "R U Nikko's cousin?".

I believe that Nikos is the name of the man who manages many of the technical aspects of maintaining the forum

 I don't know but I love it! And I love the way you asked, by any chance! :lachen:

I notice all hair from ragged ends to super healthy. In my area I notice a lot of ladies wearing their hair blond in the front and dark in the back(ex. Keisha Cole). Which I think is so played out, I see it on weaves and relaxed. The ones who are relaxed tend to have a lot of damage from the color. The heads I see with the weaves usually don't compliment the women.

I am more aware of other people's hair also. I notice every thing from ragged ends to super healthy hair. I love to see any head of pretty healthy hair on both relaxed and natural.

You took the words out of my mouth!

I know i've sent you a PM before in regards to your comments about Manchester but this is just too far fetched, i'm not sure if its just me in an extremely sensitive mood but this post had me cringing, it is quite offensive.....

I am born and bred in Manchester and not all people down here are the same, so you shouldn't really put all of us "black women" in the same category!
in our last PM, you were saying how london's better(?) how you hate the way mancunians dress, etc, but truthdfully its the PART of Manchester where you are living....

my family , friends and those who are interested in haircare have good contioned hair... we're not all walking around with bald heads!

in Longsight IMHO it is a quite rough area
but i do see people down there with some hair issues and feel like giving them a LHCF Card

my rant was just to say do not class us all the same...

when you're ready to visit other areas of Manchester let me know:look: :)

Firstly I've lived in Fallowfield, Rusholme/Moss side/Eccles and now Longsight. I go into town regularly.

Where i say i live. Why would i lie about living in Longsight?
I live in the ghetto and?   :lachen: :lachen: :lachen:

I do go outside of my area- I used to work and i came to Manchester to attend university ( and no not the met) - I see friends in other parts of Manchester and i'm sticking by what i've said the black people here look weird. Not all of them do but the majority here do look a mess.

I'm not going to apologise for my views, people here diss England/London all the time. And? Thats their right.

You could have Pmed me if you thought my post was offensive as you did weeks ago. I would have deleted it.

Thanks for telling everyone where i live. Umm Classy:look: :)
ETA: These same things are found in London BTW, there's just more of us here

Lots of weaves, afro wigs and pieces, and braids here in Paris. I noticed the same trends in places as diverse as London and south Florida.

Black women *are* developing more awareness of proper hair care, but trust me, those of us who are, are still very much in the minority.

i do not get into "internet arguments" and my post was not to offend you..just to advice you to be a bit aware about what you say...
i never said you lied about where you lived?? when did i state that?
there's nothing wrong in "living in the ghetto!"
i have also resided in moss side..

i guess everyone is entitled to their own opinions...

no harm intended
