The Cheap Stuff Is No Longer Working: Time To Move On

I dont use cheap stuff any longer. i like conditioners that I can co wash with and detangle with at the same time. the pantene works but creates the worst buildup. Now I mainly use Kenra and Elucence. It lasts me about 2-3 months before I have to repurchase and the bottles are huge.

I have a mix of both. But I have better results from the higher end products, so I will just invest in those. I like Kenra, Elucence and am looking into trying Aveda.

I'm using Aveda DR, Ojon and relax with Phyto. But I cowash with Pantene R/N Intensive sometimes, sometimes DC with the R/N mask, and clarify with Nexxus Aloe Rid.

I voted for combination. I use cheapie conditioners for my cowashes, my leave in is store brand (NTM). But, my poos and DCs are high end...Aveda, Redken, Nexxus.

The cheap stuff works better for me....the only "expensive" product I want to rry now is Nexxus Biotin but I cant find it anywhere...otherwise, I havent found an higher priced conditioner that impressed me enough to justify the cost.. In fact, my hair is happiest with my LeKair Cholestrol mixed with EVOO

I've tried both, but the more expensive brands like Aveda, Nexxus, Kenra seem to work better on my hair and has a more lasting effect. I cowash and detangle with the cheapies like pantene and suave.

I use both cheap and high end products because both work for me.
I use cheap conditioner for co washes until newgrowth gets rough.
I use expensive deep conditioners and leave-ins because I get better results.

My staple conditioner is considered high-end. My hair LOVES Kenra. Sometimes I mix it with cheap conditioners to stretch it a little, but I can't use a cheap conditioner by itself and expect my hair to be moisturized.

I just AO and it worked pretty well. I did the deep conditioning w/ it. I also bought that stabilizer plus and it was cool. I guess it would have been best to use them separately.

When I woke up this morning my hair was hard. I had to cover it in this cream mositurizer. It was sad. I have this desire to by Redken All Soft line after someone gave a review on it.

I know my hair is nappy, but I remember it feeling so so much softer than it has been feeling lately. I want soft fluffy hair.

If buying raw material and mixing them myself is cheap, then I'm a cheapie. If I buy anything premixed or whatever, it's from Indian shops. But my hair loves me for taking the time to make my own stuff. My hair has NEVER been so healthy or grown so much. I'm never going back...

I use a combination of high end and low end hair products. I usually rerserve the high end purchases for leave-ins as opposed to rinse off conditioners. For example I use Qhemet Amla & Olive Heavy Cream, Nexxus Headress and Salerm 21 B5 as leave-ins because their ingriedients are so good.

For in-shower conditioning I rely on drugstore and discount chain products like Organix conditioners, HE LTR, Pantene BD mask. Plus I do my DC on dry hair and I use LOTS of conditioner, so I mix things like ORS Hair Mayo or Replenishing Conditioner and LeKair together + oil to get the most bang for my buck.

It's all good. The only salon conditioner I routinely use is Kenra MC as it comes in liter sizes. Lines like Aveda, the regular sizes are just too small and too expensive for me to routinely use and consider as staples. Plus I'm fortunate a variety of products work on my hair regardless of price!

I voted, relaxed combo of both. Right now I am trying just about everything so I can find out what my hair likes. Im using the Ojon line, silk elements Mega Cholesterol, Garnia Frutris for co washing and a few other random products. I do add oils and stuff from the kitchen to kick the cheap stuff up a bit. I find this works well for me.

I use a mixture of cheapies and high end. Actually, I never would have considered using cheapies before LHCF-which was before I knew about co-washing. Cheapies are for co-washes and higher end, such as Aveda, Nexxus, Jane Carter, Keracare, etc. are for 'poos and DC's. Believe it or not, almost everything I have tried as far as DC had worked for me, some better than others, but I haven't had any real misses. Detangling is the only thing that I need special help for and the cheapies have been working best for that.

Having this dry hair and tangle mess of hair week has sent me on a full hair product shopping spree. And I am not a PJ. But, it has thoroughly depressed me into shopping. lol

I am trying everything in sight and barely giving anything a chance to work.

I'm about to do a hot oil treatment. LOL I havent' done this in like 3 years. Once I went natural certain things went out the door. But, I am deserpate. After using AO and the stabilizer plus yesterday my ends became really dry and tangled.

Than I'm going to clarify with baking soda and wash w/ Trader Joe's Nourish or AO Honeysuckle conditioner. I just bought these this week. lol

My cheap stuff are my V05 conditioners for CO washing, elasta qp recovery and maybe some things i dont remember. But most of my stuff are high end....it is a mixture of both.

Have you tried to clarify or chelete then see if your stuff will work? I know that when my "usuals" don't work, it's beyond time to clarify,then all's well. I alternate between cheaps and high end, since I like to condish wash quite a bit.

I think it's the quality of the product that matters more than the price tag or brand. I used to buy only the cheapies and only "Black" hair care products (little did I know pre-LHCF what was "Black" really is not ). Thanks to this site, I pay more attention to the ingredients and really how my hair responds to a product. My hair didn't like the aphogee protein trmts, Motions CPR was all right but not earth-shattering for me. I like ORS Moisture lotion but I found Elasta QP mango butter to be much better. I liked ORS olive oil shampoo too but I love my OCT (in spite of the price) even more. I love HE Break's over cond and the leave-in- both definitely deliver for a cheapie! I just found this Graham Webb silk protein leave in at a BSS by my work and I love it. Really love it. It worked well on both my and my daughter's hair. I love Silk Elements moisture treatment- its so creamy and leaves my hair silky. Suave Professionals shampoo and cond for damaged hair (in dark blue bottles) work wonders on my daughters curly/wavy hair. I get my oils at Wal-mart or GNC.

So I think if it works for you, it's a keeper- no matter the price......

Well, my cheapies, V05 and Lustrasilk, aren't working anymore. So, I'm using Aubrey Organics and Phytospecific for DC--- I already know these will work. And am going to try Jason's and Kenra for co-washes ---hopefully these will work. Otherwise, I'll put them on the hair product exchange board.

I'm transitioning, and the cheapie conditioners have never worked for me. I got the most tangles and dryness using these conditioners. Elucence mb conditioner has been working great for me. I'm going to experiment with using oils in the cheapie conditioners I have to see if that may make a difference for me. If it works, I may alternate between them and Elucence when I co-wash. I'm trying to cut back on spending, but I want to keep my hair healthy and managable, also.

I only use cheapie cond. to prepoo with. My hair doesn't like co washes at all... shampoo is my hair's friend!!
Maybe you just need to clarify your hair with a clarifying shampoo to remove buildup on the strands... then your hair may like the cheap products again.

I voted for natural, both. I use cheapies and some more high end products for overall maintenance.

just play around with stuff and your hair will let you know if it likes it or not! You will eventually find your staples.

My hair used to respond well to Suave AND VO5, that was in th early stages of being natural. Now it loves Elucence, Aveda and Kenra. so I buy what I know will work on my hair.

Still loving V05 conditioners and NextImage Curl and Wave Defining Leave-in. I usually end up in the modest price range ($7-10/product....i.e. Giovanni products), except when it comes to my DT. I'll go for quantity and quality in one big bang, so a huge bottle of Kenra Moisturizing at 2 for 1 is a damn good deal. My really expensive stuff tends to be a splurge moreso than a staple, however, I've recently become attached to Aveda Sap Moss poo and Nourishing Concentrate. Maybe it's a blessing the Sap Moss line is being discontinued.

I'm also kinda addicted to the Aveda Brilliant conditioner, but I can save that as one of my favorite splurge items. I don't have to have it.

Throughout my life I have always used a combination of both but the past many months I have went exclusively Aveda and I must say it really paid off!
However, with rising costs of darn near everything, I'm trying to cut back on luxuries and budget. So these past couple weeks I've starting incorporating the cheapie stuff back into my regimin. Well, my hair has not responded well at all. My curls are dry and frizzy. Not at all silky and soft like they had been. So its back to exlusively high end products, and I'll just have to cut back in other areas budget wise.

Now not all high end products work for me. Redken, Biolage, Paul Mitchell and other similar brands do nothing for my hair. The only ones I've had great success with are Aveda, Aubrey Organics, and Phytotheratherie(sp?).

i dont know if this was said since i have not read this whole thread but you have tried clarifying with ACV right? .... when cheapies are not working on me thats all i need to do and they back like they used to be

The only cheapie that I can use is Suave Humectant. Every other cheapie dries my hair and makes it stringy. And it only works when I wash often.

Not to hijack this thread but try the Redken Butter Treat. It turned my hair around...for real.
